Service cost

I really dont see where they get the prices for servicing from other than badge tax

on the mustang, V8 420bhp Sucks, squeezes, bangs and blows

the 3 year service package cost me £597 , that's for 3 services over 30,000 miles

What does a masetati main dealer do that justifies what ,£ 7x that over the same mileage , are they filing gold and diamonds into the oil to make it glitter when you pull the dipstick out to check it.

True price we pay for a supercar, even-a low end one! Wonder how easy it is to change the coolant in these.

They charge it because they know without a full main dealer history in the first few years the loss in value is greater than the cost of servicing

Ok so overall the Technician with 25 years Ferrari/Maserati experience has said that my car is actually in very good order. What needs done as a priority in my opinion:

-5th Annual Service £1,480 (Oil filter, pollen, oil change, gearbox oil change, air filters and diagnostics).
-RH Cam Cover leak £1,000

Also advised is that the brake fluid and coolant is changed at a cost of £630 for both, in addition to bushes with no play recorded (suspect this is a preventative measure. I would have thought the brake and coolant change would not be that much extra but boy I was wrong. The LH exhaust valve vacuum is seized and the valve is always open not bad in my opinion. Does anyone know if a lubricant can be used to unseize this? a new exhaust tip is £2,500 haha.
I'd just take it to Marios at Autoshield. Even if you are in the Emerald Isle. Nuff said.

This is precisely the reason why I sold my QPV. The service costs are just rediculous. How can any manufacturer justify £630 for a simple fluid change? My wallet is much healthier since I got rid of the beautiful machine.

I did the cam cover gaskets on my GS my self. Its a little time consuming, but a pretty simple job. Just follow the guides and take your time.

If you are changing your coolant, change your expansion tank too. It's only £50 plus minimal labour but they crack with age and the water escapes super fast, you don't have long before you overheat which will cost you a little more than £50

Might decide to leave the coolant change. The car is operating at normal temps so not sure why MD quoted me for it.

Indeed, but beware, on a GT / QP the scuttle has to come out.
Thanks for the warning. Overalls were already on the bottom half, and now staying round my ankles. Guess the engine is further back in the QP compared to 4200?

Yes that is the tricky bit. The back cylinders are well underneath it. Lots of rusty screw in the scuttle that have been sitting in water.

There is one blighter, passenger side, top of scuttle that is a particular sod! The Allen head rounds off and you have to drill it out with a angle adapter. Also exercise extreme caution on the drivers side wiper base screw, another in the ‘easy round, sod category’

An impact driver is the best starting point.

When fitting the new seal, a dab of superglue every few inches keeps it in place plus a smear of sealer on the outer edge of the gasket only so it does not go inwards into the rocker. You don’t want to go there.

Final job, remove the stickers from both solinoid valves....we have seen first hand what it does to the engine if they come off and end up blocking the oil galleries.

It's amazing the difference a Climate can make to working on these cars.
I was lucky with both my UK supplied 4200 with any job I did everything came apart easily.
For me with 40 years in the game it's all about the feel and you know if something will come apart or not.
The only car in NZ for me that was a headache and rough was a QPV that someone shipped over from Scotland and 5 years ago that was in a mess.

Can these stickers be removed when the covers are being done?
