I’ve retired and so its time to move on so I’m selling my 1999 Maserati 3200GT (manual). Looking for interest and sensible offers. The car is Grigio Touring (silver metallic) over a black (with grey piping and highlights) interior.
Although the car has 100,000 miles on the clock it has a fully stamped Maserati Service history. The servicing includes all cam belt changes and even a 60,000 mile cam chain replacement. MoT is until Oct 2026
I purchased the car in 2005. As it has been my car for such a long period I have always looked after it and over time the following items have been fitted beyond necessary replacements of components as required. I recently fitted a new battery and had a new clutch slave cylinder fitted.
  • Quicksilver stainless exhaust system – after 2 OEM MS systems lasting only a handful of years each and my expected tenure, stainless was the obvious way to go. Unfortunately, the only stainless systems available were somewhat more “sporty” .
  • Assetto Corsa steering rack, springs and anti-roll bar (along with 10mm lowering to complete Assetto Corsa spec).
  • Forum brake discs (improvement over standard) along with EBC pads and braided hoses plus even new handbrake shoes.
  • Becker Indianapolis Pro – looks like the OEM Becker Mexico but with Bluetooth telephone and (crude) sat nav.
The wheels are standard but I needed them refurbished at one point and they were redone in “Dark Chrome” with centre caps to match.
Additional factory options fitted are the sports suspension (although nearly all 3200GTs had this) and the wood centre inlay and gear knob.
The car has the standard Maserati alarm system along with an aftermarket Toad system probably to satisfy a previous owners insurance need for a recognised Thatcham Cat 5 alarm. Generally, I use the Toad system rather than the Maserati (but the Maserati system does work) as it bleeps a confirmation when it locks/unlocks the doors and I can open the trunk remotely with the fob. Similarly, it has a Trackstar tracker subscribed until Dec 2026. I do have the codes for the immobiliser system and the stereo.
Additionally, I have 2 full keys and the Red key.
There are a couple of (inevitable for its age) small traces of surface rust – see photos. The seat memory doesn’t work on the drivers side (the Dealer – Greypaul – stated it’s a switch fault and new isn’t available, I haven’t tried too hard for 2nd hand). The heating on the seats does work though.
Currently I have a private plate on the car but I will be removing it soon, certainly before I let it go.

Lovely looking car with a great provenance. Exactly how I’d be wanting to buy one. Sadly, I’m trying to slim down the ‘fleet’ at present.

A silver over blue ’99 manual with 73k on the clock in clean condition, 3 owners went for £5,600 + fees at a trade classic auction this week.

This car has now sold. It's gone to a "good home", an enthusiast and a real gentleman from Glasgow.

Although strictly I've left the Maserati fold,, firstly see the attached which should justify my exit and secondly I will remain on this forum as 21 years of ownership has left me with some residual knowledge that could potentially help others in the way this forum has helped me.

Lovely looking 928 in the garage. S4?

Lovely!
A 928 is on my wanted list, preferably with Pascha interior. Like the one Harry Metcalfe has just bought.
The Pasha interior was phased out well before the S2 that Harry has - he admits that it was a special trimming job. Rumour has it that the Pasha pattern was inspired by a sports jacket that Tony Lapine had (it was the 1970s!).

Brief history
928 - 4.5 l approx 240 hp, 16 valve engine K-Jetronic injection
928S - 4.7 l 300 hp, spoilers front and rear, side rubbing strips
928S2 - 4.7 l 310 hp , digital injection and ABS
928S4 - 5.0 l 320 hp 32 valve (twin cams per bank), wing on back, new air dam and new wrap around lights
GT and GTS and some other evolutions followed

I hope this helps

928 was my poster love. I couldn't believe it, when we were about 13 if you wrote to Porsche they would send you a bloody huge poster of all of the cars. 911 Turbo, 928, 924 and 944 absolutely FOC.

I always preferred the 928 over the 911.

Douglas Adams once described the 928 as 'like a small whale surfing' in one of the Hitchhikers books :)
