I believe it depends a lot on whether you like driving or looking at your cars. Or a combination of both. Or any other reason :). Having owned and driven many cars since 1957 (I'm 80 BTW), I find it still difficult to decide what I like most about any car. After a major 'cull', it's now 5. In 'age' order, not 'favourite', as I love driving all of them for different reasons:

1923 Vauxhall 23-60
1924 Lancia Lambda 3rd series
1938 Morgan 4/4 DHC
1954 VW Beetle, with Okrasa 1300 motor
2006 Maserati GS MCV

Looking at your list and requirements the Stradale will be special but too big and not manual. With your comments on your Vantage a 4.7 would be a the natural step up and if you go non S you will get a lovely facelift 4.7….or maybe an N420 up to 50k. If going up to 65k you get the pick of the last V8’s …N430, SP10’s, V8S manuals, etc….I would also drive the Jaguat F Type R as 45 to 50k gets a lovely car and **** load of performance. For me the F Tyoe and Vantage are the prettiest cars on the road still. I drove the 400 Sport and it was a lovely machine and contrary what some have said the F Type felt a special car. I think I would also try the Mercedes AMG GT as when I drove one it was utterly addictive…The noise, that engine, the way it went, that view down the very sexy long bonnet. The R8 is still a great looking car and they haven’t aged at all. If the first cars came out now I don’t think they would look out of place. They also seem great value at the moment but don’t think that will last as prices have already started to rise as buyers realise how important this car is in Audi’s history…. Great decision to have buddy.

Hi Dean,
I know you said you wanted to keep the TVR, but would it be easier to make the decision to sell it as well if it allow you to get a seat in a Ferrari?
You have a great range of nice cars around 60-90k… 360 manual, 430, 599, 612, 550 manual, 355 manual, 575 etc…

I do agree it could make sense for the TVR to go too but it is so unique and such a special different analogue thing in this modern world of sameness. It is a little superfluous for my needs as a about 500bhp in something that weighs a ton so way more than I need but it came up and I couldn't ignore it as it pretty much everything I'd ever want in a TVR.

I'm not a millionaire and even if I were I have this constant nagging that demands I aim for stuff I feel represents great VFM and the potential running costs might scare me a bit.

I'd feel awkward in a Ferrari I think as rightly or wrongly it doesn't often seem to create an ideal image. I don't really care what people think ultimately but I'm sure it would still never make me feel so at ease.

The F Type can be had in a SC V6 manual which certainly seems worth a look. Also I guess I should look at the obligatory 911 but never something that I often found myself lusting after.

The V6 F Type is a great car and very rare in manual form but they do come up now and again. The V6 is also a better balanced car without the heavy V8 up front….If you weren’t fussed about it being manual I would take a look at the Sport 400 as I found that to be the best handling of the range.

I sold my 2004 manual 4200 earlier this year and changed for a BMW i8. Definitely one to consider, looks great, makes you feel special every time you drive it, faster in the real world than the 4200. Also they are already appreciating and cost peanuts to run compared to the others on your list (no road tax, 4 year service plan from BMW was £540, average 60+mpg for me (can charge it at home easily) and for peace of mind BMW warranty is £1000 a year).
I've received far more attention at car shows than the Ferrari's parked next to me.

I don’t think you’d feel awkward in a Ferrari, as long as you avoided bright red or yellow. A manual 456 in blue, for example, is super stylish and creeping up in value. You’d feel special every time you drive it.

From my experiences owning a blue 456 and a silver 360 as a petrolhead I loved owning the cars for the occasion and the history.
Ferrari owners though are another matter though as I wasn't in the right social group totally different to owners on here.
I think if you can though it's worth ticking off the list.
It's a bit like having a Porsche and now having one that many consider it's not a proper one I will be keeping my 987.1 S for ever as for two people it ticks all the boxes.
Just my thoughts.

Again surely a 456 is too big for what Rockits is after on his short list. I bet running costs are a bit eye watering as well….Lovely car mind you.

I think if going Vantage again at this point it would be V12 Manual, Lightweight Seats

The detailed service history with my 456 was more than I paid for my car and also reminded me I couldn't afford to keep the car long term.
The 360 cost me £6,000 in my ownership but that was my choice to keep the history complete Ferrari.
Both Maserati I had were affordable in my opinion.

I would really like an i8 as a daily for business miles.
As you have said, pre April '17 no road tax, excellent economy etc.
Would have to be main dealer purchase for warranty.
The prices are just a bit too firm at around £50k, and buying as a opted out company car using my allowance, the dealer financing is utterly **** at silly high interest rates.
Why are BMW at around 10% apr when say Lexus are less than half on their used cars? Makes a massive difference if you are financing around £35k.

Yes agree natural step up. Cheapest at the moment is 79k I see and that car was 75k a number of months back so Rockits would need to spend less in the daily drive to stretch the busget. V12 market is crazy as the first manual cars are the same money as the S in some instances yet the S is still the better drive by all accounts.

Kind of thinking less is more so V6 F Type could hit the spot. Trying to balance between small 2.0 4cyl being to small and big V8 or V12 maybe being a bit too much.

You have Caymans, Z4M's etc. All good cars in there but trying to get something in that middle bracket that feels a little bit more unique and special seems harder.

I bought mine from a private seller, but the warranty and service pack transfers with the car. I got an amazing deal, one owner fully loaded 2016 (including the laserlights which were a £7k option) with only 9,000 miles for £48k. There was 9 months warranty left and another 2 years service pack.
You could then privately fund the finance if you wanted to.
