I was just looking at it and thinking, hum maybe replace that with some hose. Since its been done before and works I'll probably just do that.

OK, so its all back together again, sanded down corroded cable connectors, small hole in the smaller air delivery tube, I super glued on a piece of silicon hose, cut length ways and wrapped around it, also secured with 2 cable ties. If I get the errors again, I will just bypass the tube connecting the 2 sides together with silicon hose, without dismantling it all again.

The filter in my secondary air pump dissolved from old age and was partially sucked into the system. It is not necessary to remove the pump to remove the cover. Just pry it off with a flat blade screwdriver next to the top two retaining snaps. A lawn mower air filter with the precut hole seems like a good replacement. Before replacing the cover, it is good to assure that there is suction by placing a hand over the pump intake during a cold start ..
