Scuttle Slosh

I assume they're suggesting that if the scuttle drain is blocked, it then fills up and over flows to other places that aren't designed to take water, so have no drains.

What about this? Plug 13 or 14. Or can you remove one of the bottom plugs/drill small hole to see if water drips out?

13-17 look like they're worth a poke from me!

Will get on my back and see what I find tomorrow!

Cheers

Goodness. Thanks Scaf. Hadn't spotted those. Had a look under but not there. I'll await advice from Matt and Ashley.

If the relevant drains can be confirmed I can take it somewhere local it's those then I'm pleased

In the absence of proper advice. Drill 20mm holes along the length until water comes out. Think of the weight saving!

Apparently if the drains are blocked the water backs up and runs over the firewall filling up the sills and to a lesser extent gets into the footwell (whichever side is blocked I guess). There are drain plugs in the sills for exactly this reason. Where they are and how accessible they are I can't help you with as I passed the problem on to a garage who sorted it out for me. He had an audi in with the same issue at the time so this is not specific to our cars!

I think any garage should be able to drain the water off it's not a specialist job

I am going to add checking the various drain holes to my service schedule.
Also if my car had had water in the sills I would definitely be thinking of having the cavity treated with ditrinol or similar.

Discussed with Matt. The offending drain under the scuttle has already been attended to by enlarging the outlet as part of their standard engine maintenance. So probably not that. The under sill 'bungs' look promising but the source is still an issue.
Scheduling a visit as soon possible.

One thing you can cross off the list is remove the passenger front mat, open the inspection panel and make sure water is not sloshing in there. More of an issue with 4200 Spyders blocked B pillar drains but it’s quick and easy to check.

Jumping in out of our curiosity here but based on the diagram further up and the drain plugs along the side of the car below the door, can you see these just from looking then or are they under a cover that needs removing?

I didn’t see that clarified above unless I’m misreading

I imagine they are covered by the side skirt but don't know.

An easy thing to do is remove bung from door. Mine are dry though. Done as much as I can without jacking up. Off to see Matt and Ashley next week. Report back

For those who I unduly worried, it's gone away.
Short test drive after a few dry days, no slosh.
Poured 4 gallons liberally over scuttle, windscreen, wiper shield. No slosh.
Repeated over boot and rear windscreen. No slosh

Liberally hosed the whole car. Ditto.

Keep my ears open. Only last possibility is road ingress. But it's eventually drained

Did you have a shower before you heard the sloshing?
