Scale model engine kits

Given the long term nature of where we find ourselves, and the fact some forum members are scale model aficionados, are there any recommendations for a working, scale model engine, preferably V8? I am aware of kits costing several thousand pounds but my budget is probably several hundred.

How about the legendary Rover V8? It's at a scale of 12":1'. Comes with a gearbox too

But it's a GM V8 really - as installed in many a Buick.....

I keep forgetting that Maplin still exists as an online only business.

There are several plastic kit simulated models, was wondering if possible to spend a bit more and get a cast metal kit.

The V10 engine above looks immense but not a kit and more a testament to the artisan's skill... I am not an artisan, skilled or otherwise.

Bit of cork or balsa wood, small length of brake pipe and a tea light candle and you can make yourself a powered boat.

I fancy one of those 48" (wingspan) Tiger Moth or DH Dragon Rapide flyable kits, 70 quid or so but probs another 250 for the motors and R/C etc. But first just build the kit...

Trouble is with all these scale models the fly like little buzz-bombs and even in the model railway arena, they jerkily start until they reach a scale 120 mph, nice for TGV model, but not for 1902 L&YR 0-6-0 goods....

Thankfully, the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway work's football team still exist.
