Took the other head off and its pretty much the same and in further bad news, the machine shop informed me that the PO has already machined them down previously. I know the factory manual allows a maximum of 0.2mm to machined off however does anybody know the original length? Id like to verify how much was machined off

I remembered seeing a couple of videos of a scrapped out 3200 on Instagram, I contacted the guy and he refused to send me the location. Fortunately, I have a parts finder who has seen the car before he met me. I negotiated the price and sent the car over to me

I removed the heads and thank god they are safe although clearly the owner had headgasket failure with the amount of chocolate sludge

Now the question, when replacing head gaskets, any idea whether the head studs need to be replaced? the factory manual doesn't show anything and I cant find the part numbers?

My general knowledge is to replace the studs or bolts always when changing headgasket

Super cool thread! 55 degrees C. is probably more than a Masersti can handle! My 550 Maranello was constantly overheating in everything above 27 degrees when stuck in traffic. Then modified the system to be more like 575M and now it works, but 55 degrees...?! Forget it. Impossible. My 3200 never overheated. Do you deive with the hoods open in that heat? In France they do when it is 40 degrees!

Yes normally, but make sure you can get them before you start struggling... sometimes its best to leave alone as you can ruin the block trying to get them out!

I also have some oversize thrust washers if your block needs machining

Dave

Do you have a part number for the studs? coudnt find anything

55c is our summer temps, It harsh weather for my forced induction cars but the 850, SL and the E34 wagon handle it ok although Iv rigged the aux fans to come on sooner to help keep things cool

I wish you could drive with the hood open! could hear the V8s and V12s sing!

Can't find any loctite 971, has it been superseded by different number? Any advice?

Also, should I replace the headstud nuts or reuse them?

I believe the studs are stretch so will need replacement, but perhaps someone more savvy can confirm.
