Mot'd the car today and saw 2 very rusty plates underneath. Any ideas why when the rest is so clean?

bloomin ell, just don't understand why they don't just galvanise parts like this and/or powder coat and look at those clips

Probably a combination of poor quality steel and little to no rust protection at the time of build. A bit surprising as the Italians led the field with rust-proofing following the Lancia Beta debacle.

I've had to have both sub-frames replaced on my admittedly much older car so I can only put it down to them being largely hand-built.

Can I easily take them off, clean them up and paint them ( or replace) and what are they for?

that looks like serious rot and delamination and looks like a protection cover plate to me, depends how fussy you are, I would personally replace them but get the new ones either powder coated and/or painted properly

My chassis plates are exactly the same. From memory, the main dealer quoted £180 to replace them. Not that I've had them done yet.

2 ordered, thanks for that link. Need the clips now!
I have ordered some too.:) Let me know if you find somewhere with the fixings. My GT is going for am MoT test in the next 2 weeks, so I'm aiming to get them replaced whilst it's in for that.

Mine aren't too bad, but at that price, I've ordered two to keep the underside looking sharp. Two remaining on the eBay link.

Would also like to get fresh fixings, so might just call HR Owen to see if they can oblige.

The eBay link says "jacking plates"
Not sure I'd want to be lifting the car on one of those, especially the ones ion the first post! o_O

the sticker states "cover plate" in Italian and English, not sure if technically they are jacking plates??
