Thanks for the offer Sam. I’ve found both books on eBay for about £20 including post so I might as well do that rather than risk yours in the post. I’m taking note of all the tips and I’m looking forward to getting stuck in to the books.

The UK has a route 66 too but only takes a morning/afternoon. Probably good if you're in Teesside and fancy a Sunday lunch in Workington or vice versa. Jokes aside there's some stunning scenery in the middle. I give you the A66.

I think the Americans have copied that.

I suppose once you’ve visited there you need to be careful how you tell people where you’ve been. “Ive been in William all day” might raise a few eyebrows

A bit like the time our PA called me whilst I was driving and asked what I was doing. 'Just coming into Shirley' raised a smile, I then had to explain I was south of Birmingham before an HR incident occurred
