Roll cage thoughts

The first Strad I ever saw, at a Maserati track day at Goodwood back in about 2012, had the rear roll cage. But I’ve never seen another Strad with it.

They are still available and I’m toying with the idea of fitting one to mine. Dynamically, this is pointless (for my driving/use), but it seems like a fun thing to do, while adding a bit of extra drama and Maserati madness. You’d not do without one in a 911 GT3, so why miss out in a Strad?

Have I lost the plot? Or is this exactly the sort of thing that helps set the 2 seater apart from the 4 seat version, making it a must-do?

With a 2 seater I would have thought it would be a must have. The additional sense of drama and if not many around, exclusivity has to be a benefit.

Interesting....... I think of you went with a cage then the full on graphics would also be a must.

What an insanely daft idea.... go for it, at the very least it’ll stop you getting hit in the back by the Mrs’s bags.

Can you have it in a contrasting colour? Red or yellow or blue?

It's a must-have.

The first Strad I saw - in red and around 2012 - in Lancaster Colchester had one and it suited it down to the ground. I don't think it had all the graphics and am pretty sure I'd have remembered if it had.

I was toying with the idea of buying the kit whilst still available and relatively cheap but not fitting it. That is likely more insane :)

If you fit one you won't know if it works unless you give it a full functional test; how well do you get on with your neighbours?

I know Athol looked at it for my car. I think there are something like 3 with cages.

The plus sides are:

Four Point Harnesses
Looks very, very cool

For me the downsides are:

You can’t adjust the radio with the belts on
The wire to the seat belt buckle is fragile (I’m told)
It’s harder to get bags in the back

I’d still like it though....

The graphics are on order, and should be fitted later this month. This is a no-brainer, as they are cheap to buy and easy to remove if required.
The cage takes a bit more thought, as it’s at least a £2k job for supply and fit.

The 4 point harnesses come separately. I have them in my Westfield and they are a bit of a faff, so my current thought for the Strad is just to continue with the standard three point strap for the time being.

The cage is black, but the foam cushions come in three colours. I’ll have blue, to match my blue alcantara roof lining.

You don't have to have the 4-point harness though?

It's easy to loosen the shoulder straps to reach a radio or for a bit of visibility at a junction.

Ewan - this is a perfectly natural feeling, anyone with just the 2-seater should look to add to it and make it as desirable as a 4-seater. ;)
Joking aside, I think that’s absolutely what all 2-seaters should have. You’ve made the choice over the practicality of the 4-seater so why wouldn’t you go full out with a cage and harness? These extras would just add to the smile factor every time you got in and I also immediately thought GT3.
Go for it, I might even be converted one day!!
Mark.

Ewan, the yellow Strad in our workshop has the cage and harnesses. Feel free to pop down if you would like a gander.

Having had several Rally Cars I always enjoyed driving my cars on the road nice and secure with the harness and competion seats.
When you have other cars for different occasions it's a no brainer.
