Road Trip to Italy

I've tentatively booked a road trip for early Sept in the new Ghibbles. I say tentatively as I have booked hotels en route with cancellations allowed until a day or 2 before.
Getting the Eurotunnel, night near Calais, night near Valence, then a night in Monaco, then Menton, then down to the house in Italy (just south of Rome).
I will try and sort out a Maserati factory tour on the way home but with Corona I dont think they are doing them at the moment.
Does anyone have any recommendations for places to eat in Monaco? There will be 4 of us and is the step daughters 21st so I want something nice (without breaking the bank!)...
I found Jack (just in the harbour) which looks nice.. anyone been?

Indeed, the factory are great, but try to be flexible, depending on what they have going on they may have tours in different languages or an embargo on visitors.

In the same boat... dont want to book a very price break in case Covid makes it disappointing.

Etoge in Champagne country
Grenoble and then Route Napoleon to Monaco
Rappalo near Porta Fino
Balongna
Como
Colmar
Le Touquet

19 days and hoping it will be warm this time!

When are you going? Apparently the motorways around Genoa are in a terrible state. The new Polcevera bridge (Morandi) is supposed to open early Aug which will help but they are doing lots of surveys / repairs on bridges and tunnels in the area

Doesn’t really answer the question, but if it were me I’d stay, and eat, in Nice rather than in Monaco...

I feel Monaco is a bit too up itself, and a bit sterile as a result. The old town in Nice is the opposite, and has several absolutely cracking restaurants....

Alternatively, if you want great seafood overlooking the Med, La Reserve is pretty nice, particularly if you can get one of the outside tables

I'd agree with you normally, but the step daughter and her fella are having a night in Nice before (we will pick them up as we pass through) and she wants to do Monaco.

That’s fair... Menton is a lovely town as well... some fond memories there.

Yes the idea is to have an evening then the next day in Monaco then head to Menton for the night.. have something to eat in one of those restaurants on the front

I'm pretty sure we ate here on the 2018 MoB trip. Considering it was a large group, the food was good and the service good too. Nice position on the front by the harbour. I've no idea on the price as it was part of the itinerary but I'm sure it wasn't bank busting. BUT it's Monaco - you can fall into kidney donation prices - but also if you're careful you can eat and drink quite reasonably. There is a Carrefour in the shopping centre where you can even get a meal deal during the week :)

Definitely a place to tick off the list.

Thanks.. I had looked at that as an option. Jacks is literally round the corner. Will show them to the "bosses" ;)

Have you thought about staying at Eze , between Nice and Monaco? Very scenic, and not quite so busy.

Yes I looked all along there. I dont think the hotel is actually in Monaco, just right up on the border. Its the Quai des Princes on the Cap D'ail.

Ok so things looking a bit dodgier now.. however I am still wanting to go (my grandmother passed away last week so want to get over there sometime soon)

Anyway, with Luxembourg now on the list and possibly Belgium to follow, the route home (via Rotterdam - Hull ferry) means I would ordinarily pass through both of those places. Do the quarantine rules include passing through somewhere? Probably can avoid and head up Germany if needed but more convenient to go Lux - Bel ..

We spent last weekend in york which has always been one of my favourite cities but neither of us enjoyed it , the streets were full but the shops empty , nobody just browsing , just in and out as quickly as possible

The rules on masks are a farce
Hotel
Staff wearing masks , guests, no masks
Shops
Staff no masks, customers wearing masks
Pubs
Nobody wearing a mask

We're not going outside the UK this year after our Spain france trip got canned in may , it's not going to be very enjoyable when you throw in the risk of a local lockdown abroad plus double jeopardy when you come home if the self isolation rules change when you're out there.

I've even sold the mustang because the whole point of it was holidays , no point paying for it for the next 12 months if I'm not going anywhere in it
