Return of the Boomerang?

Now that the dark nights are well and truely here I have noticed a growing trend in tail lights on cars - sad I know - but some appear to be sporting boomerang style lights
Nothing nearly as iconic or large as the 3200 and many only appear as curved when the lights are on, being hidden in a massive plastic box.
Manufacturers spotted so far include Jaguar, Volvo and Audi - there are others to I am sure

What goes around, comes around.
One day the 3200 lights will be the most iconic ever.
I will add that I think they are the most significant feature of modern Maserati and it is a great shame that the need to keep the American market happy was a retrograde step...
...and that's from a 4200 owner ...but one who dreams of 3200 lights!!!

I do not think too highly of some lighting systems on current models; it seems that with the standardisation of styling elements amongst the marques, designers have little to do other than play with the lights. In my opinion some are rather overdone; mostly seen on new BMWs (5-series I think tho' may be 3-series - they all look alike anyway) in which the rear clusters at night are horribly angled - at BMW the poor stylists have nothing to do now; take the bits from the previous model, make them a smidgin bigger and...hey presto. Done. Now what shall we do? Oh I know lets' set the angle of the mouldings on the rear lights at 30 degrees, that's not been done yet! Can you imagine a duller job than being a 'car designer with creativity' in a German car company?
