What oh why cant music legends like Dianna Ross and Paul McCartney retire gracefully.
Had to keep turning off the Glastonbury coverage off as they murder their own songs.
Its like a bad karaoke night at my local.

Surely to God they have enough of that !

<shrug>

I thought that as I posted. And I am probably wide of the mark. It's a demonstrable fact that money is not a motivator once you have 'enough'. Enough money is different for everyone depending on their wants and needs. There's probably a base level below which it's 'difficult' to live a 'good' life but looking at some of these off griders, the base is probably much lower for some than one might expect.

Annnyyyyway. Some years back I did one of (several) those personality tests. This one, however, was more aimed at digging into what actually made me happy. Turned out I was beyond the point of 'enough' and well into other motivating factors. Primarily in my case, 'respect'

So perhaps not money, but some combination of adulation, respect, feeling wanted, empowerment etc etc

Apparently the whole spectrum of emotions that appreciative audiences demonstrate is hard to turn your back on.
From polite clapping through to thousands, or tens of thousands singing your song at your bidding. To screaming and doing whatever else fans do. Maybe it becomes a dependency for some, generally speaking. I don't know.
I suppose that while music may make you rich. You can't buy the adoration of your fans when you're on stage, unless you can still deliver what the fans are there for, in some shape or form. I've heard stage performers describe this interaction as intoxicating. Intoxicating is exactly the word used.

Try listening to the original without hearing the new lyrics:

Was that really Elton John? I know it looked like Elton John. Perhaps with a lot of make-up on.
I had to do a double take during the first few bars of the song, while I was listening to the singer
and reading the spoof lyrics. I thought that when I looked up, it'd be Ricky Gervais or some other
non-entity doing a caricature. However, I'm guessing it wasn't.
Perhaps he couldn't sing, due to giving too much he@d the night before.

I wonder if its the same for those who indulge in a bit of dogging.
Is it anything like being on any of the Glastonbury stages?

Possibly Elton doing Vic Reeves doing Paul Shane. Figuratively speaking of course.

Seriously?? I’ve watched a few songs from the concert and he doesn’t miss a note. Maybe not as strong but given that he’s 987 years old, and the gig lasted for 2.5 hours.
Maybe some on here criticizing his performance should watch the usual drivel on BBC or GMB. They’d feel more at home. What is the world coming to.

Ego perhaps, coupled with the need to be always in the public eye.
Similar to politicians. No matter how ridiculous they become and how much bad mouthing they get they still come on tv etc
Agree though they should burn out and not rust

Saw the Stones on Saturday night in Hyde Park and they were outstanding. Age is just a number.
