Replacing Speakers

Having accidentally flicked the speaker grille off the drivers side door, I was horrified to see the state of the actual speaker cone inside - completely disintegrated! No surprise really as the sound quality was exceptionally poor and I could hear the back speakers were either blown or in similar poor state.

So this week I set about replacing them and thankfully not a massive task. I read whatever threads I could find, but to be honest the names and brands and issues of size and depth were all too confusing with little definitive outcome. My challenge was just to replace the 2 sets initially and I'll tackle the rear parcel shelf ones next week - if I think they are actually serving any purpose.

I started by taking out the front and rear and visiting a local car audio specialist. They quickly put my hands on a set of what they deemed suitable for sound quality, size and fit. The speakers are Fujitsu Eclipse SE8365 6.5" 3-way 120w/40w for the front and Fujitsu Eclipse SE8465A 4" x 6" 2-way 90w/30w for the rear. The rear ones were slightly smaller than the originals, so the audio place made me a couple of mounting brackets for an easy fit.

Anyway to keep this short - job done, perfect fit behind the grilles and they sound great. I'm sure not the best for the true audiophile, but I wasn't after a boom box on wheels (I have the Larini's for that). Time spent taking out and installing about 20 minutes per speaker. Total cost £80.

Next job - Loudlink with auxiliary input.

Some pics of the speaker install below.

Kind regards...

Excellent post Buster , all those pics and you made organising it look so easy , ive been trying to sort out a doorcard thread how to and only just got my head round it after 6 hours of progressive baldness , now my missus has done it in 15 mins :as001 (2): , hey but she cant fit kitchens or use a can opener , a must to re post it in tech fixes

Begs the question why your speakers are shot , the tech at Marranello's said that a lot of the cars he see's that have had inner door fixes / glass renewal nearly always have ripped or shot membranes and the damp can just get straight in luckily he ordered me a new one to replace the one butchered by Autoglass , there should be a separate membrane for the rear of the speaker aswell

regards loz

Buster, excellent work, I am going to nab this copy it into the technical fixes section, and your url for the loudlink did not work so I removed it.
