Refubrished subframes!

Have I just read that a PPI didn't prevent rust on a subframe, and from a highly recommended business?
OMFG what a scandal.

All of a sudden, my way is much better for everyone. There's no dissatisfaction, buy it, expect it to be knackered, enjoy it, send it to a grave. Job done

No, you didn't. What you read was that the PPI picked up subframe corrosion issues and recommended they be addressed. The issue appears to be the quality of the job carried out for the buyer. How are Bernie and Leepu getting along with your heap?

You didn't know what you were buying - this person knew.

Did you expect to have your car off the road for so long and incurring costs?

I might be tempted in the new year to buy a new subframe, then get it galvanised / electro coated and also powder coated… as an insurance policy / investment.

It has scared the bejesus out of me seeing these corrosion pictures. Another insurance policy is most likely an upgraded differential for the Testarossa, as they tend to explode and self destruct due to faulty casing welds…. Don’t you love these exotics!

That's what I thought.
You would have to bash the whole subframe with a rubber mallet to see if any holes appear!
I can't imagine a typical PPI doing that?
It’s more of a prod in the known areas with a screwdriver. TBH you can see it will go through before you start tapping.

We had a chap in for a wheel bearing yesterday and I asked if it’s been underseal treated to which he replied with oh yes we spent thousands with a garage and it’s all been done.

It was quite a shock to him when we put it in the ramp and showed him the level of underselling he got. A quick dusting of Matt black paint to the front subframe and all the rest was crusty and untreated.

I still can’t get over the lack of trust the few have that gives all garages a bad reputation.

It's certainly a lottery out there with Garages and Workmanship with a few giving many a bad name.
I have always worked on the basis right first time and treat what I'm working on as my own.
Having said that it's a lot easier to do that when in your own workshop than when working for others and your being pushed to the limit and people want big profits.
I had that 50 year old Renault 16 on my lift for over a week and it's coming back for some more work this afternoon.
It's all about Trust between both sides.
Find who you are happy with and stick with them and you won't go wrong.

I will set up a separate thread for my car in due course - don't want to totally derail this one. Had a good chat with Dale yesterday and he wants to take a look, he is of course keen to make good and provide a solution. At this stage i think it would need dropping and properly inspecting.

I suppose the long term question is, what happens when no new subframes are available - the refurb route as ASM i guess? Appreciate the input from all.

Having been a bit peeved with the GT, I now miss her more than ever! Have an M4 comp courtesy car and just not interestd in it.

Reading through this and other subframe topics has made me glad I had my Biturbo 430 up on ramps before I opened my wallet, not that the guy I bought it from was untrustworthy (far from it in fact, he's been a top chap throughout). Nothing like a QPV underneath of course but the principle still stands. I still want a QPV at some point and I'll insist on seeing underneath for myself, as well as getting a PPI done.

Looks like it was Dale

The one who seems to always be recommended...

Sent from my IN2023 using Tapatalk
Just to be clear Dale is not a sponsor on here, so not backed by us….said he wanted to be, so I granted him authority to interact with members then he turned round and refused to pay. He was PM’ing members with issues and offering his services.

We have also seen his work come through our workshop which I will not comment on but am happy he is not a sponsor of this forum.

Dale is doing a PPI for me shortly. Most people seem positive.

I'm sure my future bank balance will be transferred to SportsItalia in due course.

Stripping my Citroen XM to get the wiring looms out as damaged by rodents during the first lockdown.
The body is galvanised but I have found some rust.
On a positive the subframes are exceptional.94013

Things seem to have drifted a touch towards others' reputation and reliability which was really never my intention - just sharing my position. I have always been happy with the service I have received and have had a positive discussion today regarding a resolution.

Dedicated thread incoming soon... I promise!

Thank you to the members on this forum who have got in contact regarding this thread. I think there’s certainly some clearing up to be done.

Matt : you wanted me to sponsor the forum, I was happy to do so, I selected the forum side that I would like to sponsor but we couldn’t come to an agreement. I then did not post any advertisement for my business. If people post about me after I’ve worked on their cars, that’s something I cannot control. I had people message me for my services which I of course replied to. I will also hold my hands up and say I did message people too that were in my area who were looking for help. This is not advertising. People share technical support all over this forum. That’s one of the best things about the forum. I understand you may have a sour taste in your mouth after I simply told you where to go when you messaged me a year later asking me for a couple of grand. I even said if there’s a problem delete me from the forum.

Badmouthing my work, when I in fact have had more experience and qualifications on these cars than yourself, is not on. Slandering my name and my business name really reflects who you are and what business you run. I get we are in competition with each other. You take my business and I take yours, that’s business. It’s how it goes.

I take great pride in my work, my reviews and my customer base reflect that. If you’ve had a car go through your doors which I’ve worked on previously and somethings not correct or whatever, I urge the customers and also yourselves to approach me in a mature way and We can settle it as I have done with this case

I have indeed too had cars come to me after they’ve been at your place for work needing rectification and things not how they should be. People make mistakes. We’re not perfect I get that. Main dealers make mistakes. You make mistakes. I make mistakes. don’t act like the sunshine shines out of your backside. Your business is far from perfect. Trust me. As is mine.

checking cars over for a PPI is a Visual inspection only. I test the subframes then and there with a tiny little corrosion hammer. the same ones that mot testers use. This one was corroded but passed the test. It was advised that it was corroded on the PPI. There is only so much you can do before the owners of the car get upset with you hammering at a car. Would you like someone hammering away at your car who you don’t know? Of Course not

as for rspiller, he is a valued customer of mine and has trusted me from the first phone call to today and I respect that. We have just had a phone call and discussed our next movement with the car after it’s back from a body repair. I have sourced a low mileage (18k miles) subframe which is absolutely mint and will be fitting it to the GT free of charge. This isn’t a case of me bowing down and saying ‘ I did something wrong’ because I didn’t. I value Rory’s custom, I know how long he’s wanted this GT in this exact colour and spec and how much he did enjoy it before someone whacked into it.

I have no need to monitor this thread after this comment as I’ve said what I’ve needed to say and have come to a resolution with the customer.

thank you

Dale

I have not badmouthed your work I merely declined to comment which is my right.

Regarding my so called demands ‘for a couple of grand’ you led me down the garden path for professional gain and this why I have no desire to have you on this forum.

I will comment no further on this subject and I suggest you don’t either.
