Hey team,

Can anyone recommend an individual or shop in Melbourne, Victoria I could use to do a Pre-Purchase Inspection on a Maserati Gransport?

Thanks,

Jerome

Hi Jerome,

If you're ever stuck. Come see me @ Garage 999.
40 Lamana Rd, Mordialloc.

I work on plenty of the Coupe chassis cars nowadays.
Personally specialise in the 3200GT's. Not that many in AUS.
Kind regards,

JTop,

Hey! Thanks for the reply.

I ended up buying a 2006 Maserati Gransport (I think it is an LE, as it has all the goodies) from Melbourne in July, and drove it all the way back to Adelaide, without a pre-purchase inspection! Talk about taking a risk! I was so nervous!

The car is black with a burgundy interior that, to me, is reminiscent of a luxurious Italian bordello. Most of the sticky plastics are sorted - the seat backs are the worst. I have already ordered, and waiting on, the carbon fibre backs from devil engineering.

Returning home, Victoria provided splendid weather, but when I hit Bordertown, the rain just bucketed down, unrelenting, till I turned into my driveway! The previous owner never drove it in the rain or on dirt roads, so the car certainly went through its paces with me!

I noticed only two issues - 1. I lost the RHS headlight washer cover (I am still looking for one) and 2. the LHS radiator fan (not the aircon one) would run immediately when the car was started, even if the engine was cold, keeping the engine too cool for my liking. (Only recently I realised that by resetting the electronics by disconnecting the battery resolved the issue).

But so far, so good - the car has been pretty good to me - just the usual (?) low battery voltage gremlins throwing the odd code here and there on my OBD2 reader (but when I clear the code they don't return).

I've learnt the low fuel warning light means 'FILL UP NOW OR ELSE!'. I made it home, just, but the car was misfiring badly and threw a 'SLOW DOWN' warning light. I looked that error code up and it relates to the catalytic converters overheating, which completely freaked me out! But I filled up the tank with a jerry can and after some spluttering and a massive backfire, she ran beautifully again. Panic and disaster averted!

My only wish is that I could keep the car in sport mode for the faster changes, but in regular mode for the more comfortable skyhook ride.

I have one query - I notice that when I take my foot off the brake, either in drive or reverse, the car seems to hold (or slowly release) the brake for a short period, which I find disconcerting. Is this usual?

Looking for recommendations for a suitable mechanic in Adelaide to give the car a 'deep' service (replace all fluids and filters, etc), verify everything is in order (the clutch was recently replaced), and provide advice as to what maintenance I might need to save for in the future.

Re the brakes.

It's the hill-hold function which gives you time to move your foot off the brake and onto the accelerator before it rolls back into the car behind... perfectly normal.

Re the fan, it sounds like the resistor at the bottom of the grill... cheap fix with the Alfa part.

I belive Devil also do a 3d printed headlight washer cover for the 4200/GS.

Let us know how the seat backs go as I am considering the same after sorting all my sticky stuff!

Hey Jerome,

Sounds like you've had everything cut out for you!
Safrane's spot on with all suggestions.
Clutch is not engaged 1/R low RPM, should slowly pickup once you're off the brakes and onto the accelerator pedal.
After that, it's pretty much on all the time(except for each lightning fast gear-change).

My mate had same issue with his GS regarding fuel. Couldn't overfill it, or let it run less than 1/2 tank otherwise he was left stranded at the petrol station, needing a tow. I don't have any recommendations for any shop in Adelaide unfortunately. There are a few, but even I struggled to pluck them out of google when a fellow called me asking me about his 3200.

A good shop will advise F1 concerns and calibrate your PIS/KISS point properly.
Solenoid leakage rates, failing accumulators, failing brush style pumps and eventually burnt out hydraulic compression heads.
Quite a bit to it. Lot more pleasant to drive in Sports mode than in standard, unless in "Auto" gearbox control mode.
The flappy paddles are addictive.

Enjoy!
Kind regards,
JTop

Safran,

Thanks for clarifying that it is the hill-hold function that keeps the brake briefly applied.

I have purchased a replacement resistor, as you suggested, from eBay (https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/187312418774).

Just in case, I also purchased a new temperature sensor (https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/116459707513) and thermostat with pressure gauge.

I have purchased a 3D printed headlight washer cover - just need to buy some paint now :)

Yes, flappy paddles in sports mode is the best!

I am still waiting on the seats, which I was informed will take 3-4 months to arrive, as they are made to order. I'll report back when I get them!

Hi I purchased my GT recently (December 2025) in Victoria and had a company called Greasemonkey do the full report. Must say they were very professional and identified even the minor details. Regards
