Hi Tony,
I bought the correct cables from scantool, part #kkl316. The three pin cable has a red wire with a crocodile clip. Am I correct that this must be connected to the positive of the car battery ? I previously assumed there would be a negative connection on this cable,so the negative connection must be one of the three pins ?

Yes positive, you’ll see from the photo above I extended the black cable so the crocodile clip could reach the boot. (Note that yahoo were closing the group for KWP back in October ). I think they don’t want to support free groups any more.

Hi Tony,
Maybe I didn't explain it quite well. The three pin cable has just one red wire with a crocodile clip. There is no black wire with a crococdile clip.

Here’s a photo of the red wire, sorry, I should have said I extended this with a long black cable in order to reach the battery in the boot. Apart from the extension your cable should be the same.

Hi Tony,
I'm still not happy with the setup but I have this readout,"2807 echo nothing/error " I take this to mean that there are no real errors ? Please confirm.

Is this on the diagnose tab, I don’t recognise this output, can you post up a screen shot. If there are no errors stored the screen should be blank.

That line is part of the log. stored in the Unidiag folder as a text. I now think the "nothing/error" means there is no communication so I'm going to alter the latency setting on the KKL interface. Although the system initialised OK the port closed after a 25 msec. time in diagnose. Also there was no response in Read ECU ID.

Ok, makes sure the baud rate is 9600. Also check that the red light on the plastic cover on the blue cable is red so you know there is power. Which version of Windows are you using.

Thanks Tony. Windows 7 Pro. Red LED is on. Baud rate after initialisation was 10,400.
I have reduced the buffers on both send & receive to the minimum in device manager, COM port 4

I think I'm battling a flaky Magnetti Marelli ECU and the notorious problems with serial ports. VAG fault code was 2087 which indicates ECU not talking.

Ain't life interesting ?

If possible try and borrow an older version of Windows I used an XP with a slow processor.
It took me a few weeks and about half a dozen attempts to get a connection as you have to do all the steps in sequence. I hope your ECU is not failing - fingers crossed.

Hi all,

I am new here - from Austria, having a beautiful 3200 from 1999 - and of course I am having occassionaly some CE lights on my dashboard. So thanks to redsonnylee and the privious 11 pages, I finally manged to get my DTC list (you definitly need a FTDI cable!).

62968

So that is the result. Can you please tell me what does that tell me? Is the 0x1226 the potentiometer?

Thank you very much
Rainer

Yep, believe this means: ACCEL. POTENTIOMETER INCONSIST.....

Looks like a new Throttle pedal pot might be in order.

Hi Tony,
Got the box of tricks to work today, thanks very much for your help. Had two problems,1. Nokia Bluetooth module which the laptop was recognising as an external device,so disconnected that. The second problem I am embarassed to admit, but here goes,,,,,,,,,,I was counting the COM ports backwards,so put COM 4 in when it should have been COM 5,doh !
Only three faults stored, both lambda sensors & the pedal pot,so nothing to worry about. There were three entries labelled "item not on list" Is there an updated version of software with more DTC's ?

Sander who created the software hasn’t updated the software for a long time. I’ll send you the unidig yahoo user group later. I’m not sure if messages are getting through though, also I’ll see if I have his contact details and will send him a message about this to.
Good to hear you eventually got it to work it takes some time to get all the various things together in the correct order.

Fyi- I’ve check the unidiag user group, there are no updates to the KWP files I’ve sent everyone who has requested them.

The unidiag group no longer allows updates, also only the admin can provide access to new members. All communication is via email groups, however the last message is dated 14/11 so not even sure if the admin is still monitoring the group.

I’ve requested from yahoo to send me all the uploads before these get deleted, if I get these I’ll update again as I’ll probably ask a moderator if we can store the files somewhere on here.

Hi Tony.
Came across this,

The link is old & they replied that they may not still have the files. Could it be of any use ?
Thanks I saw that a while back & never managed to download those files. I tried to find out who the developer was but was not able to.

I'll send you a pm later today when I get home with the files. I'm guessing you have all the cables, leads etc with the FTC chip.

Thanks so much, appreciated! I’ve got cables setup, but not too sure about FTC chip. I’ll get it plugged in and see what happens
