CO / Smoke detector batteries. Is there some kind of clock function to make sure they go flat enough to trigger the alerts only in the small hours of the morning?
0148 FFS!

Powercut at 1.30am the other night. Alarm system starts moaning to tell me that it's using it's own battery. Do I care?
Having been woken up, desperate for a cuppa - can't! Call the electricity board who ask me to reset my trip switch. Duh! when I can see that the whole street on our side is out (and snoring blissfully presumably as they don't have tetchy alarms like I do)
Power restored at 3, time for a cuppa and bed at 4

that's so true, in my case we have interconnected hard wired ones and over the last couple of years I've had a couple throw a wobbly as they're getting on for 12/14 years now, fookers always go off early hours of the morning when in a deep sleep and that's all 5 alarms sounding at the same time, trying to find the one culprit setting them all off is a right pain the 4rse as well

Oh ain't that true! Ladders, screw drivers, swearing. All you need at that time!

did you not use the universal tool then as i did one year because even off the ceiling the blooming back up battery was setting it off, think it was about 2 am in the morning and I'm club hammering the fook out of thing on the driveway

Can't get one of ours down without a ladder and a screwdriver. I could, I guess, simply have had at it with a Glasgow Socket Set, but then I would have needed a new ceiling....

Tell me about it, living under thatch we have to have one in the roof space, they are all interconnected, and the battery always goes flat in the middle of the night, my neighbour got so frustrated the first time his went flat, that he beat the **** out of it with a hammer, just left wires hanging from the ceiling!

Headlamp bulb replacement!!!

Next time I buy a car I will ask the salesman to change the headlamp bulbs and if can’t do it in 5mins without breaking his knuckles he can keep the car!!

I have just spent 45 mins changing the headlight bulbs on my wife’s 2014 Corsa and it’s completely ridiculous ! No access at all.
some YouTube videos even suggest removing the headlights which involves removing part of the front bumper.
No way could you do this at the side of the road, in the dark.
have now completed the task but feel as stressed as **** - off to the pub to recover!

The Jag needs a new headlamp bulb to pass it's MOT (along with new rear tyres), there's no way I'm going to be able to fit that with my hands!
I'd rather pay them 2 quid to do it!

not sure about halfords fitting things, you pay peanuts you get monkeys, the wife was away on a course about a couple of years ago and she got the local halfords to replace a rear lamp on her BMW Mini, about a year or so later i had to replace it again and found that they hadn't clipped it in properly, it was sitting at an angle and had somehow partly melted the plastic unit, i would defo check that things are fitted correctly before you drive away

XF? Dead easy. The whole unit comes out on three 10mm bolts and you do it with full access and visibility. Literally takes no time

It’s not £2 more like £8 but more importantly if they fit then badly they do not last which is the problem we had last time.

Asking for trouble ;)
I've certainly allowed Halfords to do jobs. However only one's that are a bit of a faff but very minor and I can watch them doing it. Changing/upgrading headlight lamps, windscreen wipers and number plates for example. Always pleasant and charming and on the very few occasions that I've let them close to the Maserati (Number plates) they've been very careful and particularly attentive. The comment concerning the ladies was meant to be wholeheartedly complimentary. In this day of continuing gender stereotyping I'm always delighted to see a gal bucking the trend. Both the Cheltenham gal and Evesham gal were proficient and very pleasant.

Daughter and four granddaughters often receive a subtle gentle push of 'You can do anything '. And they can.

My best senior team leaders were all women, often overlooked by others.

I don't care what gender anyone is.

Got an email today asking me to change a column header on a resource profile as it contained the word “men”.

I think I’m going to change it to “shovel user”

People are to easily offended and or worried about offending people, often those who could or would be offended are not bothered at all.
