Just taken the dog for a walk , some **** in a S3 thinks 70+ in a 30 is acceptable

Some people still don't get it , crash and that's resources the NHS don't have to spare , personally I'd send a copper out if they crashed to tell them they're not being treated for being a **** in a time of national crisis.

Don't do what that taxi driver in Preston did when the fuel strikes were on

He filled a wheely bin with diesel , only it melted and flooded a row of terraced houses, the whole street had to be evacuated, I bet he was popular.

I still have a jerry can full of petrol that my wife made me get for the Y2K 'crisis'. No idea how to dispose of it.

Is this a 'safe space' for ranting? Really? Ok, here goes....

I'm getting really sick of dumb 'news' reports that are just click-bait, and dumb memes that are just nonsense!

Everywhere you look there are people posting headlines that say things like: "Boris in COBRA security breach!!!" or "Covonavirus boy dies at 14!!!" or "Did 21 million Chinese die of COVID-19???" and meanwhile people re-post these composite images saying things like Uncaring Tories want this polar bear to die." or "Visiting your GP to cost £200 unless you vote Labour" or "Diane Abbott has two left feet, so Labour wants to double shoe tax."

But the news is not news, it is just a partial lie designed to make you anxious, and the images are not jokes or clever observations, but just untruths intended to satisfy prejudices and get quickly passed on.

If you read on past the headline you discover that Boris gave away a past Zoom meeting id in a Tweet, but it's not actually a security breach as they are renewed each meeting and there is a password. You discover that the 14-year-old died 'with' coronavirus, not 'from' coronavirus. And it turns out that 21 million Chinese cellphone accounts (out of 1.6 billion) were cancelled by people dumping their 2nd and 3rd sims during lock-down and income downturn.

And the memes are just total billhooks.

Why do people look at this stuff and then re-post it?

Is the doom headline some how satisfying a predisposition toward pessimism and anxiety? Surely a sensible approach would be to ignore this stuff. Or to read between the lines or fact check to find some reassurance.

Gaaaah!

We live in a world where nearly everybody feels the urge to have something to say, all the time. And since most people don’t have very much in the way of original thought - possibly because they spend so much time having something to say rather than actually thinking - they just “share” things that somebody else has thought or already said without any consideration or interpretation. Add to that the Facebook, Twitter, Youtube posters who are in it for their own self-promotion and financial advantage. and you have created the perfect world where people create garbage “news, theories, content” that all the thoughtless sharers can spend all their time sharing. With a few genuine exceptions, it is an utter pile of shite from top to bottom and is, in my view, destroying society.

Dean posted on the “Are you worried yet” thread about there being lots of innovators and independent thinkers. My experience of advising businesses for 30 years and running the UK aspect of a global programme for entrepreneurs is that there are actually very few true innovators and independent thinkers who genuinely change the way the world works in one aspect or another. Most entrepreneurs areimitators who may add a little something unique to somebody else's big new idea. It also concerns me that, in time, the world often ends up not appreciating these real innovators and independent thinkers very much, eg the likes of Richard Branson, Elon Musk etc. So the world isn’t a terribly good place at fostering real innovators and independent thinkers. We reap what we sow........

Couple of reasons:
  1. It tells them something they already know as 'truth'
  2. They CBA to check
  3. It means they can say 'I'm so confused, I don't know what to do, In don't understand the advice or the numbers'

sigh

Yes! This! I fully agree.

Obviously, I'd love to disagree but that would rather defeat the point.

I don't, not me, oh no no no no no. As one of the silent majority it's just not in my nature; no honestly, you can trust me as Maserati ownership guarantees my credentials as one who is given only to rational thought and expression...….;)
