Range Rover advice

OK, bit of a long shot here, but would anyone like to lend/rent me a 2nd Generation P38A (1994-2002) Range Rover for a month or two?
MrsMM is adamant that I can't buy one, but weirdly she said I could 'try one for a bit', so I figure that once we have one on the drive she might grow to like the idea...
Are you sure? The first time I went in one (as a passenger) I thought we were capsizing at the first mini roundabout. Next version (whatever it is called) is far better in that regard.

That's the charm of the P38 I've had two and never capsized one.
The later L322 that I had is certainly a different league again but more money.

P38s are probably the cheapest to buy.
Just buy one for not a lot!
Why the P38?

I think the styling has gradually got worse from the first to the the current.

But I can't afford a good Series 1. This would be nice:

So it has to be a P38

There is a nice history / timeline here:

Buy one, tell her you've borrowed it, a month or so, he doesn't want it back, sorted

Yes. Good plan.

But MrsMM is the Finance Director round here, so sneaking the necessary £5k out of the bank to do that deal might be noticed.

I wonder if a dealer selling one would take a fee for a two-month 'test drive', but I guess that's not how their business model works.

What's the definition of buy? And how long is "a bit"? Plenty of wiggle room for a resourceful chap like you!

CSK :)
Had the opportunity to buy the only Overfinch converted CSK ever converted, with full 5lt chevy V8, manual, suspension and steering mods.
Was my mates late father who had it virtually from new.
Needed too much work (rust) for me.
It's had a few owners since though with £10's of K spent on it.

For me the P38 is still a sharp looking motor in the timeline pictures.
There's a strong following like on here and parts availability is 100% with many specialists out there.
The most complicated system on them is the HVAC.
Like anything take your time and buy the best you can.

I guess for this kind of money I could just 'rent' it for 3 months and chuck it in an auction if it goes badly.

The 4 litre is a bit pedestrian, the 2.5 diesel is almost dangerously lethargic. 4.6 is the best of the bunch, in Vogue flavour preferably. I had an Oxford Blue 4.6 Vogue with cream leather back in the day, great car.

You say that but my neighbours 4.4 TDV8 (60 plate) has been on a ramp waiting for a cooling pipe for the last 2 months.

Needed after the aux belt tensioner went for a tea break and the belt thrashed around for a while.

The most complicated system on them is the HVAC.
And that didn’t work, even before the belt went for a ride.

He does love it though. He had another L322 before that which was scrapped because it needed the body off to replace some brake pipes.

L322 is monocoque, body can’t come off. L320 Sport shared the same chassis as the Discovery 3/4; body off for various fixes, but apparently it’s quite a straightforward process although labour-intensive and therefore ££££
