My supercharged RR has been in for a service, needs a new rear propshaft, £250 exchange but other than that it's fine

Somebody in the past didn't want to do the awkward LH side spark plugs, denso on the left, ngk on the right, I bet they got charged for 8 though

They don't make it easy

Both diffs now have new oil but the transfer box oil is unobtanium, some special oil from castrol

Next jobs will be new supercharger oil, transfer box oil, prop

I wish there was a cheap way of releasing some noise, it's far too quiet but a £1500 exhaust won't be happening

Gave it a wash and polish when I got it back, those wheels need some love though.

It certainly does but I'm sure to service it it needs to come off the motor.

I've seen posts on LR forums where they say they've drained and refilled without removing it but I didn't look at how they did it

It's working OK, gave it a test this afternoon, obviously not near any corners:p

A guy on one of the forums comes recommended for a gearbox flush, he's mobile with the machine to suck it all out and replace it, £300 for that

Experts reckon the oil in the charger should be changed every 40,000 miles service kits not expensive.
Doing it in situ seems possible using a syringe it seems.
Make sure the gearbox service includes a new filter.
Glad she's proving to be good and not breaking the bank.

It's got a full service history as in it's been MOTd and had the oil & filter changed every 12 months but unless something came up on the mot I think that was about it, spark plugs were odd in either bank and pretty manky

The air filter looked more than 12 months old but it had done 12k so maybe not

The main problem with the AJV8 is the camchain tensioner as I'm sure you know but this one is silent from cold, no rattle at all

This is definitely all the money I'd want in one, just over £3000 so far , if it throws up a crazy bill I can walk away, if you've got 10-15k in one you're fixing it.

Aren’t the later ones supposed to be ok with a metal rather than plastic tensioner?

Not looked into it, I know my 97 XK8 had plastic tensioners

Why on earth manufacturers introduced 2 year, 20, 000 mile servicing I have no idea, its not as if it's £300 to change the oil and filter

I bought this from Costco for £58, enough for 2 services on the RR

The big rangy tells you when it needs a service dependant on driving style. It's the only one which does.

A friend's daughter bought a new mini with a service plan, 3 years free servicing I think it was, when it got to 2 years old her dad rang mini to ask why the service light hadn't been on at all

They said It's because she drives it mostly on motorways, which is good but not seeing a garage for a almost 3 years is bad

Many people haven't got a clue, even driving round on illegal tyres because nobody told them they had to change them

I've always serviced at 10k, fuel filter every other service, that's how put 330,000 miles over 8 years on a 3.0 iveco daily without any engine problems, it never broke down once, still on the original clutch when I sold it and a lot of that pulling a 3.5t trailer

All it had was 2 diffs that were howling

Well that was a faff

Took it to Costco who are great if you want to buy 4 new tyres but if it's 2 they have to go on the back, they won't sell less than 4 tyres if it's a 4x4, and now punctures are a problem

Wouldn't fix it because it was in at an angle

Took it somewhere else, sorry, no glue, FFS

3rd try, there was a bit of air sucking through the teeth until I said I won't be buying new tyres, I've seen a set of L405 wheels with 7mm Pirelli scorpions I'm pretty sure the guy will do for £500 so I'll just put the spare on and buy them

Amazingly it was fixable if the only option was £20 or £0

You were soft in the morning? You sure you want to share that?
At least it's not near the edge ;)

C

I'm 62, anything in the morning is a bonus

OK, bit of a long shot here, but would anyone like to lend/rent me a 2nd Generation P38A (1994-2002) Range Rover for a month or two?
MrsMM is adamant that I can't buy one, but weirdly she said I could 'try one for a bit', so I figure that once we have one on the drive she might grow to like the idea...

P38s are probably the cheapest to buy.
Just buy one for not a lot!
Why the P38?

Buy one, tell her you've borrowed it, a month or so, he doesn't want it back, sorted
