What a difference, illuminates all the way to the junction at the end of the road, with a welcome spread to the side too.

Holy god. You could get a suntan! I recall my (brief) 155 had astonishing lights

Do they have a separate transformer?

Yep, they have D2S 35 watt HID bulbs with a hardwired ignitor/ballast in a waterproof aluminium enclosure. They aren't a spotlight retrofitted with a HID kit.

For reference the complete length of Digley Reservoir Dam just up the road from me, straightest and flattest road to aim them!
