BTW, my Hook or by Crook one (which I forgot I'd posted TBH) refers to Hook Head in Wexford, and the village of Crooke in Waterford. So it appears to have come from a vow Cromwell made to take Waterford by Hook (on the Wexford side of Waterford Estuary) or by Crooke (a village on the Waterford side).

Probs a load of old bollox.....

That's a great one! I have a book at home that explains the history behind most of the Old English sayings.........It's very interesting!

Imperial.....

A chuffing lot I would imagine, I know the first stage held about 130000 tonnes of fuel which in burnt in less than 3 mins.

There was a program on BBC 4 last night about rockets and the revolutions that made them possible - quite interesting

Well, this is going well …..
A new Q. anyone.

With the Ashes upon, with appropriate rain fall too, how has England's 1979 tour down-under been best remembered?
Looking for three reasons in particular which, as far as I know, are unique in series between the two countries.
Anyone care to hazard a guess.

Pyjamas were worn for the One-dayers?
We're back to Packer again

Whose World Series resulted in a much weakened Aussie team being fielded v England later that year.
Hopefully, a good clue to one of the reasons. Another clue being the Aussies were playing for "Ernie".

Is one correct answer. The ECB didn't consider Australia's weakened team worthy of Ashes status.
Australia won the series 3-0 and bought their own $10 trophy instead. Called Ernie.

Leaving, what two ways was Dennis Lillee involved in making the series memorable.
