Quattroporte Vs Listed For Sale

Are QP Vs really ruinous? I did a lot of research and a part from a pricey service every 2 years I haven’t seen any regular issues with them except subframe corrosion and the variators I think it was?
I don't find the annual/major services too pricey... it's the unplanned stuff and things higher mileage QPV owners (like me) need to keep on top of to ensure things stay tip top. I'm averaging circa £4k/year, with last year being the dearest by far... here are a selection of fairly recent items that have contributed to that average:

- Front upper bushes + realignment
- Transmission fault/diagnosis/replacement air flow sensor
- Gearbox oil, filter + diff oil change
- TPMS ECU replacement (managed to track one down - but a total PITA when they go wrong, next time I'll pay SportsItalia to code them out)
- Exhaust valves
- Rear discs/pads
- Drivers front door window regulator

No more or less than any other Maserati. Budget 3K a year for maintenance and you should be mostly fine....!

Sounds about right to me. The one I just sold cost 4500 over 18 months and 10k miles - tyres, service, bushes, parking sensors, electronic handbrake (a solution to a problem nobody has!). The previous two services were carried out by SportsItalia and it was supplied by Richard Grace so I was on pretty firm ground to start with. The great thing though is that there is no material depreciation on most of the Maseratis we love and that is by far the biggest running cost in my experience of owning over 70 cars. My first QPV GT S cost me 25k in depreciation over 2.5 years and 25k miles but it was only 4 years old and bought from an MD. An ordinary new car will lose 5/6k per annum and they still need tyres and a service occasionally...

I guess if you do loads of miles it will cost more. I don’t think many people do big miles in QPV’s these days though. In fact Guy’s 10k in 18 months is probably at the upper end.
Had mine 4 years this week, done 17k in that time. All maintenance and tyres/repairs are about 8k I think, although it’s due a service soon. So say 9-10k which is ‘only’ 2.5k/year. I think that’s pretty good value since I reckon I’d get back what I paid for it 4 years ago.

They aren't ruinous to run, it's just about perspective. Buying a QPV for 10k to 20k is only the start, what you bought was a 100k Italian
thoroughbred saloon which will always have the maintenance of a 100k Italian car. The issue is when a high mileage car goes into the hands
of owners who don't, or can't, keep them looked after. So you get a few dogs and that creates the reputation.

Keep on top of them, expect to spend on preventative maintanence, and you have a fantastic car for the money.

I‘ve had mine for just over 2 years now, done about 5k miles in that time and had very little to do - the car was low mileage and in great condition when I bought it, I spent a total of 1.2k in that time- probably about the same on fuel. It’s worth more than I bought it for so I’m pretty chuffed - for now of course as I haven’t had any pads/disks/bushes etc. our labour cost is a lot cheaper of course, but parts probably more expensive.

I have only had to spend on service and a few consumables. Everything else was by choice and not necessity. And long may it continue.

I am not sure 3k a year is valid for servicing and repairs. Every other year yes, plus another 3k every 40k miles for a clutch.

I think this is more like it. Personally I *need* a saloon right now, or I'd have another coupe. Or people may own both.
Certainly I still wonder if I should have got a QP as opposed to the Ghibli

C
I’m looking for a family car and I believe that Ghibli is more suited, due to being able to put rear seats down or at least get through the boot, as opposed to strict saloon that is the QP VI. I might be wrong though…?

Ah, then what you need is a family hatchback. Like the Aston Martin Rapide.

Well said... I was exaggerating somewhat when deploying the term 'ruinous', and of course everything is relative. Despite going into Maserati ownership with eyes wide open it still makes me wince when I see a bill north of £2k, which happened twice (almost three times) last year! All is soon forgotten and forgiven however when jumping back in the driver's seat and putting my foot down on the open road.

Still, two £2k bills in one year is a lot less than 12 guaranteed £500 bills every year that no-one doing that seems to wince about, just to run about in a mid range diesel suv or saloon.

Spent 30k in 8 years on servicing and repairs for 40k miles...
Add to that front end repaint, DBW, dodgy xpipe and replacement windscreen on insurance..
And I'm lucky it's an auto so no clutch and pre TPMS!
So i was being a tad optimistic 3K per year!
Also the car has depreciated 12k

To paraphrase Georgie Best when asked where all the the money went:
'I spent it all on servicing and maintaining my QP and the rest I wasted!'

Yep.

I once got a £3k bill for my 320d out of warranty.

Man do I regret posting that.

I was meant to delete it.

I was meant to say that you buy a QP V then fall for the brand then move on to GranTurismos, ACs etc etc.

But then I realised that’s probably not true as the QP V is amazing so never intended to post it.
Absolutely no offence taken Alex. Keep on posting all your good stuff. Its all good fun and the fine folk here keep everyone on their toes.....

£30k maintenance plus £12k depreciation over 8 years is still only £440/month!
My sub £500/month man maths still work even in your case!
