No MOT history until 2010, so something odd... and failed suspension bushes at 10400 miles.

Look at the steering wheel, the drivers seat pad, and the carpets in the drivers footwell. Then tell me you believe the claim of only 18k miles!!! 180k miles more like!
I didn't open the ad. It's green!

Hi guys! I am new around here (please check out my Newbie thread if interested), looking for a QP S in the best possible condition I can find - it would be my first Mase and I wouldn't like to bump into a one that would need major repairs straight away - I prefer to get a really nice specimen.
So I've been monitoring the market for a while and as you know there are not many of these - post 2009, low mileage, great condition.

Recently I went to see this one advertised by Arun Ltd - https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-de...y New&onesearchad=Used&postcode=nw63er&page=2

I couldn't find any info about it (talking about forums etc), no one mentions it over here neither - but I am sure you guys have seen this ad as it has been online for a while. In fact it is out there on ebay and it looks like it was fist posted in August 2020... So I was thinking what is wrong with this car - apart from the price that might be too high for some.

Well my first impressions were not that great - rear tyres need replacing, rattling sound in the front left while going through some bumps and the boot that we struggled to open for a couple of minutes. Guys at Arun say that the car would get through pre-delivery inspection and MOT (expired in march) and all of these things would get fixed (I am sure it wouldn't pass MOT with these tyres and the rattle).
Also the car feels loud inside - some noise like humming in the back - which could be maybe tyres or differential or wheel bearings? Anyway looks like the car has been parked there for a couple of months - which is probably not ideal..
Previous MOT were fine - only issues were parking brake, worn tyres, front coil spring on one side.

This would be my first car purchase in the UK (I am from abroad) and a first Maserati. Arun Ltd seems to have mostly positive reviews and they offer a 6 months warranty for the car (which would probably cover only some key elements) but I wouldn't like to step on a mine here.

I am looking to get a car for fun/weekend rides only - not making lots of miles annually.
Any thoughts on this one welcome - or if anyone has seen the car themselves or has any info?

Been up for sale for a long time. Probably because the price has not shifted at all. I would say this is the wrong side of 20k, but as we know used prices are climbing so one of our dealer friends on here will be better to answer that. You will have seen my black one above that sold for 18k recently.
Humming is likely tyres as mine did this on Pirelli and Michelin, but not very intrusive. I think my diff was a little noisy/whiny from cold for a few minutes but not all the time.
Speak with Dicky and Sports Italia. They will advise and may know of a car to suit needs and budget. If only going to be a weekend motor then a high miles cheaper car may be a good option. They don't implode at 60k like some believe.

Yes, it's been on at £23k for a while. Seems like a nice car (apart from the black interior) based on the ad, but yes, looks a bit overpriced.

Do you know the REG?

I was a bit obsessed about getting a low mileage post-2009 S, but in the end bought a 60k 2009 S for less money and I am spending the difference on repairs and upgrades.

Thanks for the advice Gaz, I might give them a call.
Hah well maybe you are right - with the milage. After all the silver one has done 28000, supposedly well maintained (regular services) but at the moment needs some love to bring it back to good condition anyway.

I might also go and check out this one: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-de...de=nw63er&advertising-location=at_cars&page=2

It is 4.2 (which is fine by me - for my needs - I guess) but no paddle shifters. Price seems reasonable.

Black interior works for me - I spent a couple of years in an all black interior Alfa 166 so feels like home:)

Reg number is EU59HLJ
Engine number is 141806- so I think falls within the cam variator issue part (I read on the other forum that engines < 148697 might be affected)

Thanks guys!

I had a 4.2 with no paddle for 5 years and it was lovely and had an elegant sufficiency of power. But I must admit I am enjoying the upgrade to 4.7 and paddles now. Paddle can be retrofitted, I think.

LJ10GDY does look like a good one. Has been for sale at least since March at that price, and seems to have 2,000 more miles since then, which is no bad thing.

You should get an inspection by a trusted specialist before buying anything.

I would definitely give them a call. They may well know the cars you are looking at. PPI is essential and 3k for variators if and when it needs it. Paddles can be retrofitted I believe.
Not sure what colour you are looking for but I see there is a 2011 S for sale too.

I am sure 4.2 is going to be enough for me:) I read about the paddles - that would be a nice upgrade in this case.
I might go and have a look at this one and report back.

Oh which one are you talking about?

White one. Rare. Pricey.

Ha, yes seen this ad - white is nice - and I don't own a wedding car business:p
Unfortunately a bit more than I was willing to spend for purchase..

Ah this one. Yes, I have seen the conversation about it on this forum and it was a while ago. That is why I was not sure about this QP but Basildon is not far from me so I might take a look anyway.
Cheers!

Until you see them, you never know. Some cars are well known and clear they are to be avoided. Others can get negative feedback from opinions alone and that can scare people off. My Strad was either a bargain or a shed depending how you read the thread comments.
