Hey, I'm on the hunt for QPV. I am open to the interior or colour but in general I think black on black is best. I have a varied price range dependent on the mileage/age and standard of the vehicle. Really looking for help to get the best bang for my buck. My max budget is 15k. So would be great to know what I can get for that cost. I would prefer a 4.7 engine and as many after market add ons as possible! Also will probably want to rip out the stereo and put in an aftermarket android unit... not sure if that makes much difference

Welcome to the forum!

If if you are going for a 4.7 L, then you are in for the later generation of infotainment system which is a lot easier to integrate with aftermarket options, as opposed to replace. I think that the Bose speakers are pretty decent, myself and you can get quite a lot from playing around with the sound settings from an aftermarket system. For example, the owner of this forum does a very cost-effective install of an Apple Carplay/Android Auto system with full touchscreen (SportsItalia).

There are that many optional extras to look out for if you get the GTS or Exec models.

Thank you @mowlas to be honest I'm okay with 4.2l or 4.7l if 4.7l has easier aftermarket options then I'd be keen to go down that route. Do you have any recommendations for my budget range? Is gts and exec the best for after market add ons? Such as heated seats etc...

I don't think there is any difference in infotainment between 4.2 and 4.7.
The issues are:
(a) between facelift and pre-facelift (not sure why, but get facelift anyway) but maybe it is:
(b) between having both audio socket and USB in the glove box and not having those (I think all facelifts have this, but check), as you need that for aftermarket Bluetooth and, maybe, for Matt's upgrade
(c) between real Bose and just Bose speakers. Real Bose is indicated by dials on either side of the screen, not just Bose labels on the speakers, and having this option means that you cannot have Matt's excellent Android/Apple touchscreen add-on.
(d) between CD changer and not CD changer - if you have the CD changer under the steering wheel, you can install the Loudlink box, but not if you can't

These are the bad kind of Bose:

This is OK:

Key buying points for me are:
(a) They are cheap to buy, but expensive to maintain (mostly parts costs).
(b) A recently fettled high-miler is better than a neglected low-miler, because of (a).
(c) A car well known to SportsItalia, Aldous Voice, Migliore, or someone like, that is worth much more than some randomly-maintained one
(d) A pre-purchase inspection by someone like the above is absolutely imperative (don't get carried away on viewing)
(e) Most dealers don't know what they have
(f) Look at and drive at least 5 cars before you buy one

I think £15k should get you a fairly good post-facelift 2008-ish 60,000-ish car, but you may need to put a few £1,000s into getting it mechanically right, and also have a reserve fund of a couple of £1,000 just in case something else goes wrong. Keep in mind that wheel bearings cost about £700 and shock absorbers are £1,000 for a pair.

Below are some 'for sale' list prices (mostly from Autotrader) from about a year ago. Probably about the same now.

PS:
Most people say QPV not QP5
4.7 is a bit better than 4.2 but not much
You can't afford a GT S
Heated seats can be retro-fitted for £500
Make sure the cam variators have been fixed if the engine number is before 148697, or set aside a few £1,000 to get it done if and when needed
Skyhook is not a good thing

How much extra to stretch to a GT S, seems they are rare to come by isit worth it?

Having owned a 4.7S. I wouldn't throw down the extra £££ needed for a GT S unless it was going to be a keeper. If you don't get on with skyhook it can easily be changed to coilovers if that is your preference and valved boxes can be fitted or the existing modded to good affect. Ask me how I know! :thumb3:

Firstly, my sensation is that the GT S is a very different car. The 4.2 or 4.7 S feel like 'executive expresses' whereas the GT S feels much more demanding and agressive. Depends what you want.

And then the extra stretch, at the moment, seems to be an extra £20-30k!!! A good GT S seems to be commanding around £35-45k. Plus extra running costs, especially disks. And a bad GT S will be a problem.
