Classic colours, only 2 owners and full history. Assume some specialist knowledge and equipment required to sort the gearbox?

Fix, enjoy and sell before hits 100k miles.

27 bids already from 7 different bidders so there's certainly lots of interest. It does look like it could have potential

The best bit is that you could drive it away. Wait for the problem to occur and get your breakdown cover to deliver it to your nearest indie.

Budget for a swap at a guess. To be safe.

It could just be the clutch but unless it's had one recently you'd be mad not to put one in it while it's apart if it is the gearbox, bidding is at 4.5k which makes it as 7.5k car already, add a used gearbox on , say £1500 , that's 9k, still sounds cheap for the best colour available with a new clutch as long as everything else is OK, but Maserati so what are the chances of that, sounds like it's going to need a new subframe or certainly a stripdown so a few more k.

Looks like a dealer serviced car (6 years of MOT's all at JCT 600) too so could be worth a punt but it's just that a punt as it may need some serious work on the box and clutch to get it back to reliable and saleable, it would be better to buy, improve and then keep as a nice daily....

Agreed but it ends tomorrow and is still sub £5k currently and even if you were factoring in a box change, I think it could end up being a very nice car & a real head turner

This was purchased in an auction in September by a dealer who buys insurance write-off non-runners

There is a black QP on auto trader with low miles and one owner with 11 service stamps,, MOT and about £12k offered in Durham. 2006 car.

You would have to really love blue to pick this 'scrapper' over the one above.

If it's got a rusty subframe then forget about it - they are an absolute pig to get out.

I think it'll make £6500 then be back on in a week after whoever buys it realises a halfords socket set and some ramps isn't going to fix it

£5600?

That rather feels like it might be a bit of a win for someone

It does sound very cheap if you can fix it yourself but I've been there with non runners bought cheap, I bought an XK8 with a goosed gearbox for 4k when they were 7-8k, body and interior were mint but a car you can't drive can have hidden problems that don't show up until you get to temperature or speed

turned out the engine was on it's last legs , Steve advised it needed a new one as it wasn't going to last long , but me being me I spent days on various websites until I found a guy in Newbury with a gearbox, rang him and he had an engine but it was out of a XJ8 not an Xk8 so only the block and heads were the same, everything else had to be swapped including the cams which needed special tools to set them up , cost £200

I got the engine and box for £700 because the guy was fed up with tripping over it , he'd sold a mint XJ8 to a german 3 years previously, german decided to take it to germany to see his family only he didn't inform the insurance so not covered, lost it in France , spun and hit the barrier, recovery came out and he went home on the train

Recovery parked it in their yard and the alarm started going off so instead of finding out where the battery was like normal people would do and disconnecting it they crow bared the boot and door open to get in it as german had locked it and took the keys , it was worth repairing but they knackered it

Newbury garage brings it back because german wants to fix it but never does

steve swapped the engines/ boxes which was a LOT of work

bit of a win at the end though, I stripped the engine down to sell it for spares and found out the block was a replacement due to the nikasil problems they had at the time, sold the lot in bits to a company that rebuilds them for £600

I doubt this QP will be that cheap a fix , if I'd gone to a specialist and told them to fix my XK8 I could see that being 4k , at 90k the QP may have had 2 clutches but if not I wouldn't just fit a new gearbox while it's all apart and as voicy says, if the subframe is goosed and you're paying somebody £70 an hour
