QPV Battery question

Looking for a decent new battery for the QPV and as per the manual the correct is "12V 100Ah 850A".

Searching for a Varta with that combination, the closest i found is "12V 100Ah 830A". Not sure what the 3rd number stands for to be honest. Would that work or should i keep looking?

What have others gone for ?

Fitted exact same battery in my 2009 Granturismo 4.7s over a year ago. All fine, so far even during lower usage and lower mileage lockdown.

I fitted a Bosch S5 to my QPV in April 2019 and it died in less than a year, and that surprised me as Bosch has been my default brand on various cars over the years. ECP would only give me a replacement battery rather than a refund (it is now on my shelf as a spare) and I have instead fitted an Exide which is fine:

The third figure (830 CCA) is the available Cold Cranking Current - the amount of power available to start a cold car. I've heard negative reports on various batteries including Bosch, Varta, Exide, etc, and my guess is that in a competitive market they are being manufactured 'down to a price', so perhaps the quality isn't what it used to be. You might also need to consider whether your car lives outside or is snug in a garage.

The trick (which is harder to achieve than type) is the buy the heaviest battery of the type you can. It means the plates are thicker and it will last longer. Or it has a lump of concrete in the casing, which defeats the object. Helpful I know.

Some people swear by Yuasa, others have had poor experiences. The weight is 23.3kg while the Bosch S5 is 21.9, so it might have a bit more lead in it.

Thanks Zep! I think I might give it a try especially at the price compared to the Bosch and the 5yr warranty. What could go wrong?!? Haha

Got a question tho - I got the Yuasa stop/start battery just cos I assumed stop/start might mean more oomph, but on the trickle charger I set to charge as non stop/start.

Guess, thinking about it I should trickle it as stop/start?

Our smart chargers have an AGM setting so yes, you have to get a charger that specifically for AGM

Right - mine has that setting. Any logic in my theory that AGM batts. have more ooomph due to having to stop start a fairly hefty V8 lump? Even tho mines a QP5 and not stop/start?

I've got a Yuasa in my QP5 and no issues after 18 months......
I think I bought one on the back of forum reccommendation when I thought I'd goosed my battery. However recovered it using an Aldi/Lidl CTEK and so sold it on to another forum member.... :worried1:

There are a few SM threads on this... my previous battery was a Bosch AGM, and whilst others have operated theirs without incident, my QPV did not like it... swapped out for an Exide from Tayna, and no issues since.

Funny - I recall Yuasa were flavour of the month not so long ago!

I've had a Yuasa in my E39 for a few years now, seems to get along very happily in there.
