QP S (PARK OFF BUTTON)

from the QP User Manual:

" Pressing the EBP button while driving will cause the vehicle to slow down with a sharp deceleration (Dynamic Braking). We therefore recommend that you use the feature only in the event of an emergency. In any case, vehicle stability is ensured by the MSP system, which is always active".

So no handbrake turns, but for those QPs with the e-handbrake you can use it in an emergency.
Think I will give it a miss.

Shows how far we've come, back in the day had many a brake pedal go straight to floor with no effect. So forget the left turn, carry on straight, and go round again a bit slower! Last time I had that was in my Audi 200 circa 1990 but that was gradual, just add more fluid until I got it fixed....

I regularly drive off in the QP DS with the handbrake on and never even noticed!!!

I thought cars had to have an emergency brake legally, and MOT tested. Just asking my MOT tester who is a friend on FB too!

Has to have it and has to be tested. Would still contest it's an emergency brake as it's about as effective as opening the door and hoping the wind drag will slow you down

I was told by a friend that if you pull the epb in a VW it goes into a full on emergency stop, braking all 4 wheels. He tried it apparently.

Bet it doesn't. You'd need to have a mech on the front wheels for a start.

Unless it just uses the ABS system or similar

Ok so here are a couple of things I noticed.

Started car, pressed 'PARK OFF', appeared on dash as 'Park off' however the EPC dash sign (red P) was still active. I disengaged the EPC using the little lever, turned car off however the EPC re-engaged as the dash read 'EPC on' with the little (red P) on dash again.

I also noticed that with PARK OFF pressed and the car is in Drive, the message doesn't disappear from the dash. Am I missing something here guys? Isn't the PARK OFF meant to disengage the EPC or it this always active when switching off?

Park off will only stop it from engaging. It won't release it if already on.
So it is: stop, put in park, press and hold park off, get message park off, engine off, get out, lock, walk to bar, order from the lovely young barmaid.

Ok tried that and got EPC off when I turned ignition off. I did however feel uneasy and felt a car rolling slightly until I got out?

I believe this is a normal trait for automatics? e.g once you place the car in Park - and remove your foot from the floor brake pedal - you may get a "lurch" of sorts as the car settles? In my experience lots of torque converter autos do that.

As a rule, each time I park up on a flat surface I put the car into Park, press and hold the Park Off button (with the floor brake pedal depressed) until the light flashes up on the dash, remove my foot from the floor brake pedal and then turn the car off. You should see in white text a message in the cluster saying "EPB off" or something to that effect. The next time you turn the car on, the EPB should still be off

not sure if that's helpful!

A quick spray with WD40 or similar on the mechanism in the boot well is also worthwhile I believe as this may prevent malfunctioning of wiring in there. It can get damp

Park Off does not disengage the EPB. It stops it from engaging.

Only use it before you turn the engine off and the EPB is off.

Any action on the manual enagement lever cancels the 'Off' function

Missed this bit. Totally normal just waiting for the pawl to lock into its slot.

When driving off today it didn't feel too happy at the rear moving off from standstill... have decided to adopt the approach of turning the EPB off, particularly during periods of being stood still for a while.

That will definitely be sticky shoes or possibly trying to move off before epb fully disengaged (not sure if it lets you or not). I guess it would be similar feel when you pull off with hill hold engaged.

I'm sure it's sticky shoes. I always give the car plenty of time to disengage the EPB (even after the parking brake logo has gone through it's sequence of flashing before extinguishing fully), and I did have the shoes inspected when I had the rear brake discs changed to be informed they're in good condition.

My driveway has a slight slope, and whilst I would have faith in any other car that P on the gear selector will hold the car, I've stuck a wheel chock underneath the rear wheel anyway (because I'm anal like that). Ha :)
