Someone posted here some time back (Ewan maybe?) a suggestion of how to get the grilles looking shiny and black again, without the faff of removing the grilles from their mounted positions within the front bumper... take a can of spray paint (I used Hycote Satin Black) and spray into the lid of the can, dipping your fine paintbrush into that and applying to the grille with a very careful hand.
At first it didn't look like it wasn't making any difference... until I took a step back and compared/contrasted to what I hadn't done yet. Some snaps:

With the number plate off I'll be doing some cleaning of areas behind the plastic mounting plinth I wouldn't normally have access to.
