My rental car cost the firm £11.00 per day... no wonder cars get written off so easy at the price you guys are quoting.

The whole thing is bonkers.
Slight bump. Car written off.
Settle for cash-in-lieu. Walk away £8k better off.
Meanwhile the insurers faff around - and run up extra bills on the courtesy car.
That's where your premiums go.

And no-one's clear who is paying the final bill.
Zenith said they aren't, because they only insured the previous owner of the other car and it seems new owner (he is currently being retained at Her Majesty's Pleasure) didn't take out insurance.
But Aviva said Zenith, as the last insurer, have agreed to pick up the bill.
But I couldn't get an answer out of Zenith. Pity. Else I would have squeezed them to settle direct with me for £12K cash-in-lieu - because their bill from Aviva is going to be well north of £15k.

Anyway done and dusted now - and the QP is back in my hands - and running very nicely. (A post on this in a minute)

It is a real pain. This happened to me as well.

But it was in my wife’s shed car.

It was the first time anything like this happened. I held out and didn’t accept their first 3 offers. And then sent them 5 examples of cars on autotrader.

But then I got screwed on the loan car. And because I agreed to something they were within their rights to take it back after a couple of months.

Luckily back then I didn’t need a car. But if Yu did you would be stuffed.

In the end I got the car written off and I bought it back. But it sounds like I should have just accepted cash payment and sorted out the repairs myself.

Which in fact have never been done. Still driving the car now.

Live and learn I guess.

Update: I wrote a formal complaint to Aviva about the time taken to handle this claim. Took me about 20 minutes to detail it all.

They've agreed it was far too long and are going to pay me 70 days interest, £153, plus Distress & Inconvenience compensation of a further £225.
So that's another £378 for the little war chest.

As one of my business mentors once said "Non Carbonundrum Ilegitimate" - don't let the bastards grind you down.

At this rate you'll be able to afford a nice facelift 4.7 QP and enough in your back pocket to have a run around Europe for a couple of weeks:cool:

Not the 4.7QP - next will be the 4.7 Granturismo - Auto probably (too close to London for the MC-Shift).

But really where in Europe. France freaks me out. On the spot fines. Speed cams everywhere. Can't use a speed cam app etc.

I'll get the clutch fixed on this and take her up to Scotland for a last blast next April me thinks.
Then sell her for the a deposit on a 4.7 GT

This business about calculating the write off value is ridiculous. My 06 QP Sport GT 48 k miles write off offered me £12k, sent details of very similar cars at 16 to 18k and that I had just fitted Larini cats. They came back with 14175 to include full cost of Larinis. A friend whose parked 06 QP sport Gt was written off by another driver ploughing into it has only been offered 10k because mileage is 84k. I would like to know how Aviva can get to 15k for an 05 QP with 65k miles. What can we do about it ?

But you can use the likes of Waze and TomTom which give you some pretty good insights into what TomTom calls (something like) 'danger zones'. Helpfully highlighted using some kind of camera icon.

Anyway, glad you're all sorted. Well done. What a palaver!

In France they don't have to prove it was being used. At least with SatNavs. Disabling the camera database is not enough. The capability/plugin/software, call it what you will, should be uninstalled. Failing which you're open to a fine. That said, been using them for years and never once had a problem.

Surely if your using some sort of speed camera warning you shouldn't have been caught speeding? so they wont have stopped you, so wont know you were using it?

Construct an argument. Present them with ads. Put in mileage adjustments - and show what the value should be.
Moan, complain and didn't give up.
Show the additional spec from the base model. Show them what you paid.
I bought might only 2 years previous from Nuvola at £20K - there was no way it could £10K after 2 years. Aviva internally said they could only justify £10.5K until they sent an engineer.
Mine's a really nice example and the engineer did rave about the condition and the interior (cuoio leather and mahogany dash and steering wheel - bit pipe and slippers but lux).
They knew I wasn't going to give the courtesy car back until I was happy (with Aviva you have 2 weeks after the offer) - and they knew I might go the official complaints route about the offer.
Plus in the meantime I filed a formal complaint about their slow handling.

But even I was surprised at £15K. :)
Nareman at Nuvola said he couldn't seriously value it a more than £12K. - but I wasn't going to tell them that!!!

As someone said earlier - Aviva are known for good settlements. Plus I am a customer service nightmare in terms of being very calm, persistent and assertive (I train people in those skills).
It's a negotiation. Because on these cars they have a lot flexibility, so it is not what the car is worth so much is what is worth Aviva to get it sorted rather than have it drag out.

And if the other driver is at fault with undisputed liability - negotiate direct with the other insurer.

Great result and only took three weeks, that’s pretty good. Now you can get that clutch sorted and you will be better off than before the accident, some hassle involved but was worth it in the long run. Also some good advice from the forum, that’s what it’s all about. It could happen to any of us, so glad it all worked out.
