Well, I've had my car now for 3 and a half years and have really enjoyed the experience of ownership. I have been very fortunate in that the car has never missed a beat and other than servicing and MOT's and a couple of tyres I've not had to spend out any money on it. Having said that I've not exactly piled on the miles during this time. I'm well aware its not the best time of year or probably the best best time full stop to try to sell but there we go! In any case, if anybody is interested in an extremely well looked after and absolutely original manual 4200 I am currently advertising it just on Car & Classic https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C1139419
2004 plate, 53,000 miles. Blu Nettuno with Crema leather interior. 58819£15,200. The car is in Aberdeenshire so worth considering the location if you reside in Cornwall or similar distant lands! PM me if you want further information and photos etc.

Very nice car, good luck with the sale. Aberdeen Airport (Dyce), is well served by Flybe to most English destinations including Newquay Airport

Have you thought about listing it on my auction site, www.tradeclassics.com?

We don't charge the seller anything, 75% of our buyers buy sight-unseen (we write a VERY thorough listing, which means as you're in Aberdeenshire you'll have a much less geographically restricted audience), our buyers all have verified credit cards registered with us, and we generally get above average pricing for any given model.

We only sell fresh to market cars so as you've advertised off-forum then it might not be eligible - BUT I can try to pressure Adam and Kulraj for you as a forum favour if you're interested.

Just a thought!

Thanks for the offer. I had a look at your website and I can see this could be a good way to sell if I wanted to be sure of a sale any time soon. To be honest though, I’m in no great hurry and currently I’m prepared to wait. Maybe next Spring if I haven’t had any interest I may look to other methods of selling.
I feel that the market is pretty flat currently and to clear a car quickly you have to offer it at a pretty low price. Very much a buyer’s market. I can’t help thinking that my car is already worth more then I’m advertising it for but I’m sure there are plenty who will remind me that it’s only worth what somebody is willing to pay, so I guess I will just sit tight for now.

Sorry to see you go David , mine is still on market, had some fantastic runs round the west this summer, and as per your car the Spyder has performed perfectly.

I am going to Motor mania in Grantown again maybe see you there if you don't get a quick sale, your car looks stunning every time we have met.

Good luck.

Chief.

I think that’s a very wise move. The market is tough at present, particularly for Maseratis it seems. If you can afford to wait I think that would help. Remember to calculate the cost of waiting though - another service, another year of tax and insurance, etc.

I make my living investing and Davidc should take his money and run. Particularly in the UK with Brexit fouling the British economy, the EU living on fumes, the US and China in a long trade war and the global economy slowing it's going to be a long time (if ever) before you get today's price. On a micro-scale look at it this way, who aside from the few of us here wants your car...who said they're interested in it? It's a market of desperate sellers and not desperate buyers.

I was a buy side equity analyst from 2010 to 2016. Many people have been predicting the end of the economic world constantly since 2008, and there have always been good reasons to think it’s coming - and yet...

On the other hand rates aren’t going up anywhere anytime soon, central banks and governments are open to new stimulus ideas (for better or worse long term), and there is huge power behind the desire of the old, rich people of the world to keep kicking the can down the road just a bit longer. At some point they won’t be able to, but to call that point is a very brave move and liable to make fools of those who try.

I know classic car prices are nuts. But are they really that instantly vulnerable in a world of negative rates? And are Maseratis the most overvalued? They’re about the most undervalued (relative to the rest of the market) classic cars around I’d have thought.

Well guys, I’m a geologist by trade and our profession tend to take the long view on timescales and whilst I concur with various thoughts given by those who are perhaps more in tune with the economy, I will see what happens over the coming period. Luckily I’m not a desperate seller!

Just out of interest, in this “doomed “climate where are you investing?
Personally I think there is a bum for every seat as long as the price is right and David will hopefully find that buyer .

I agree there is a bum for every seat if the number is right or low enough. Anything will sell at the right price. If you can hold out until a buyer comes along I would hold out. Why sell cheaper if you aren't desperate.

I do think at the moment though it is unlikely to sell at that price. I have a 2005/55 facelift 4200 that is going to be sold for £12.5k to compare. I think the price will need to be the comfortably the other side of £15k at the moment. However next spring could be a totally different story.

It is not as thought that £15k is going to do much sitting in a bank account.

Concerning your second point first, I agree there is a bum for every seat but it's the price we're debating. I'm just saying that if you want to sell your Maserati sooner is better than later for the foreseeable future.

I also agree that the "art cars" (Ferrari's and such) will probably hold their value because if you're worth a billion are you going to buy a Ferrari 250 GTO to impress your friends for a mere $70 million or 2,000 used Maserati's? The uber-rich are steadily and quietly moving way ahead of the rest of us and they're doing fine thank you.

Now concerning your first question...dividend aristocrat US stocks and corporate bonds with some other things for diversification. On the speculative side oil might become the new tobacco and with tobacco when it became hated those who hung in made the really big money.

Hi Stewart,

I was hoping to go get to Motormania this year as well but it appears that my booking never went through so I missed out on a place. I may drop by in any case depending upon the weather and what else is going on that weekend so still may see you there.
