Purely as an investment...

Purely on ROI. If you can find one within your budget, I'd go for a 911 993 C2. Might have to be a barn find. Keep the restoration original.
If you can find a low mileage, V8 Classic Range Rover soft dash that was one of the last off the production line in 1995, with all of it's hard to find components like tailgate, intact. Might've missed the boat on this one already.
Or, as a bit of a wildcard. A Ford Capri Mk1. V6 preferably. They sound great.
What is common across all three is the high level of positive sentiment felt towards each. Like many things in life. The likability factor tends to help success. (Below: Capri RS 3100)

Dodge’s performance division will go all electric next year so Challenger and Hellcat

Holden is no more so although they’re already on the rise a special edition Commodore

Stuff that meets the USA 25 year rule soon so 3200 might be interesting

Lotus as they’re either going bust or will just become a rebadged Chinese SUV

A low mileage 2001/2 BMW M-Coupe - Good ones are already more than twice the new price and there are not many. But reliable and usable and terrific fun so there should always be a market. Should be able to get parts as well.

I would think it would have to be something with relatively simple electrical systems. I can't see any hi tech stuff being viable down the line. Hence I'm keeping the 348.

I think you raise a valid point. Tangentially we know that phones have a limited lifespan and will stop updating. I wonder how long it will be before the Dacia (for example) that has eschewed its display and controls in favour of low cost and using the phone in your pocket, is no longer able to connect to an up to date smart phone. 10 years? I guess that might get it to the end of its life but certainly anything 'future classic' that needs an app is going to be in trouble I suspect

Completely agree.
Give me a decent looking car that has a good engine, slick gearbox and comfortable ride and the only complexity I'd prefer beyond that is heating, a radio/mp3 player, electric windows (optional), central locking (optional) and some safety gizmos like traction control and that's it.
The ability to open my boot by waving my foot around is a bit extraneous and I can't think of a single instance where my driving
experience might've been enhanced by night vision capability. Instead, give me a vehicle that is completely recyclable and doesn't pollute.

Nayf, surprised you didn’t mention the 147GTA! Surprised I didn’t either!
60k for a Clio Williams? Silly money for V6 clios too, I’d rather have the GTA over both of those.

Did they get the GTA and V6 Clio in the US? Could be one for the 25 year import effect.

Following from the thread discussing the Alfa 4C, using investment (i.e. financial gain) as the only criteria, what car would you buy with a budget of £45k? Let’s set the time frame as 10 to 20 years.

In the spirit of the forum, I’ll kick off with:
Ghibli Cup
But outside of Maserati,
Porsche 911 (996) 40 Jahre
A house in Bolton?

That's not a car, so outside the rules of engagement!
Plus I bought a load of cheap houses up north about 20 years ago, and while they've generally done okay, it has now become clear that the money would have been far better invested in classic cars. Hindsight and all that...

Back on cars, if the MC20 halo car works it's magic for the brand, maybe a Merak SS? (Though a £45k example now would not be the best example.)

Ewan started the thread with good old English pounds and if you look on UK sites you could be surprised Den.
I did the conversion and looked at 56k USD and under...again, briefly on one site, but everything under 60k was a Mondial...!
