Pump noise?

Hi all
Newbie here. Apologies if this has been covered before. On cold start there seems to be a pump noise or suchlike. Lasts a few seconds then stops. Its a 2007 granturismo 4.2.
It has the blue covers which I believe means its wet sump?
Anyway any pointers would be great.
Thanks Jim

Hi
Thankyou for your reply.
Don't believe its either. Sounds a bit like a horn going ( obviously quieter ) car runs great. Only happens on cold start. Nothing changes noise wise whether aircon on or not.
Read something about a secondary air pump for exhaust. That might tie in with just doing it on cold start. Maybe its nothing but wokld be good to catch an issue early

I would say it is something to do with the secondary air pump.

The tubing can rust or spring leaks which might be what’s happening to you.

Okay. That would tie in with the cars age maybe. So presumably when car has been running and its then started a couple of hours later the exhaust is still warm hence why it dosn't happen then?
So would you normally hear the air pump on cold start?

If the car has hydraulic power steering, the first thing I would check is the power steering pump & the fluid filter. Blockage of the filter by debris makes the pump work ******* a cold start as the fluid is more viscous.

Hi all
Thankyou for your info.
Ok so general consensus is secondary airpump. Bugger lol!!
Will investigate and update.
If it stops running is the car still drivable?

I expect the worst you would get us a catalyst warm up fault or secondary air fault.

Thanks for the info.
Not sure what to do.
Its not throwing up any faults or engine light etc.
I've looked at issues on cars before and sometimes seem to make things worse!
I suppose if theres no fault or engine light maybe leave alone.
Is it a big job?

I agree that it's most likely the secondary air pump. Our 2013 makes the same noise on start-up and it goes away after a few seconds. The local Maserati service department said that it's a normal sound. I wonder if I'd get the same reply now that the car is out of warranty?

It really depends on if there is an issue or not. Have you heard another similar car start up?

Maybe a video?

Hi
Thankyou for all your info.
Yes you're probably right now its out of warranty. Video too large to attach. Will try and sort it.
Havnt heard another car start up in the flesh only on youtbe so hard to tell.
Cars gone in to be checked out ( not at maserati) so I'll update accordingly.

Right a bit of an update.
Had the pump noise checked out. They are saying all is good. No fault codes. Ecu all clear. Basically saying thats how its meant to be. Pump is running fine at pressure it should be and no leaks etc. As jw38s car makes the same noise on startup hopefully its encouraging news, particularly as maserati have said the same in regard to their car. Where my car has been checked they do mcclarens, Ferrari etc so if they are saying same thing I'm hoping all is well!

Mine has the same noise, its s 2007 one. Usually is gone after a few miles. If i remember correctly i had a specialist drive it and he commented on the fact they all make weird noises. (i have a noisy differential as well) and that he thought my suspension was too quiet for these cars :p

I accept the fact that it's not the most refined car in a technical sense. There is suspension noises sometimes, a differential noise which makes me drive over the speed limit (not my fault) and then the odd rattle or pump noise. But its all good, just lower the windows and step on it workes wonders.
