I just got an e-mail from some reg transfer company, and I seem to get a lot of these either offering me numbers that vaguely say ROB, if you streach your imagination far enough, or wanting to buy the numbers I have, one I bought & one I have by default as it came with the masser.

How the h*ll do they value these things???
I was offered 500 quid for N19 SPY, which is on the masser, by one of them.
How did he know I had it? more worrying is how did he get my e-mail addresss.

I saw in the ads in a sunday paper a number very close to mine but was 2k. do they just think of a figure they want, add the date & a bit more just in case & thats the price ?
There is no sense to the pricing & now the goverment are in on the scam there never will be.

I blame tony blair

These companies will always send you numbers c,ose to your name hoping you will fall for it and pay lots for the pleasure....Never buy a plate from these companies go straight to the DVLA as most of the plates are on there anyway and at a lot less....These companies advertise the plates that the DVLA have and charge you more.........A while back then one company sent me a email saying AK 12 was available...buy it now for 18k...Madness ....

My plate I have now was up for £900 with one of these companies and I paid £250 through the DVLA.

There's one I have had my eye on for ages that hasn't sold, I'm thinking of just buying it and putting it on a retainer thingy

On the Lotus I have A91 DAN, it was a 21st B'day pressie and cost in the region of £1200, that was 12 years ago. Recently I found A92 DAN and thought it might be quite cool to start collecting the set.... but not at the £4,000 they were asking for it. So I thought I'd get mine valued by the same people... they offered me £900.
So Rob, to answer your question, I believe they make it up as they go along and charge whatever some schmuck is prepared to pay for them.

As ever...my rule of thumb is......"Never buy anything from a conman....sorry salesman!" ......;)...;)

I always do my own research.......pick brains...then make my own decision/mistake...;)...;)
