I went to a car show , a guy who looked like a bit of a chancer had a triumph herald convertible that he'd just bought , it looked rough , like car sos pulling it out the garage rough , door bottoms were gaffer tape , inner wings were mostly air ,30 year old tyres,I can't imagine what the chassis was like.
I asked about MOT , doesn't need one , free tax too , I just insured it for £150

Yeah numbnuts, no mot doesn't mean pull it out of the sea and drive it.
The vehicle still has to be in a road worthy condition so if you know it has faults and are driving it on the public highway you would be breaking the law.
On the whole from when I was MOT testing most classic car owners tend to look after their cars well.
Problem now is the new breed of owners just after free road tax and no MOT.
They would be the same people that would just want one spring or shock absorber fitting on their cars to get a ticket and no intention of doing advisories.

You are not breaking the law if the police don't catch you... ;)

Maybe better if DVSA had more of a (free) safely inspection for older cars, as they don't have all the emission stuff on or loads of electronic gadgets like ABS/ASR/MSP etc - I'm sure it's a 30 min job for MOT tester to check the essentials like stopping and steering basically.

From my experiences testing never 30 minutes if it's a rough, rusty and badly maintained vehicle whether it's Classic or Modern.
Yes a low mileage car having its first MOT you can do very quickly in comparison.
