Just had an email from my brother in law working in Abu Dhabi, stating Maserati intends to target BMW in the lower price bracket. Comments? Is this a plan to increase sales , possibly watering down the brand in the process?
Trying to take on a what could be called a mass market manufacturer, by a what could be called a Supercar manufacturer, is a bit weird. If Maserati have actually decided to become a mass market supplier, which I doubt, they would have a real battle on their hands. Stick to what you know and get it right..!!
But what would you have called Porsche pre the Boxster, Cayman, Cayenne and Panamera?
I know exactly what you mean and personally I don't think that move has done Porche a massive amount of good. They may have sold a few more cars, but now such as the Boxster is falling in to the really cheap 2 seater bracket and as common as muck, how do you shake that impression of the name off, not easy.
I agree with you it has de-valued what was a prized brand into a common brand. But it is obvious that Maserati are planning something very similar from all the new models they are releasing.
Could the Ghibli be Maserati's Boxster? I can see it getting pretty cheap in the years to come.
I doubt Maserati would ever launch a Boxster competitor, would be a huge shame if they did. A re-introudction of the Gransport, a 911 competitor, would be fine.
