Prepare for carnage

London with its great cycle route OK, but most cities have just srolen a meter of the side of the road and put a protective white line there.
In Bristol and Cardiff cycling is a free for all with weaving in and out of traffic, onto pavements, across zebra crossing and past red lights... I have very little sympathy for those individuals when they end up injured.

Most cities are the same, there are so many poor commuter cyclists who seem to think the highway code doesn't apply to them and when they get hit by another vehicle the driver of such is cycling hating nutter. Evidence I have seen of electric scooters riders is worse IMO

They were certainly a pain in the áss in Auckland NZ along with Skate boarders.
Paris the same too but here in the Mayenne were safe.

This thread is really disappointing. I misread the subject and thought it said Prepare for Arnage. I'd mentally clocked it as a Le Mans thread, instead it's about bloody electric scooters. Oh well. I'm here now.

Don't mind 'em, but they should be speed limited, insured and in all respects abide by the same laws as any other motorised vehicle. There are plenty of them in parts of Asia and that doesn't seem to over-excite too many people, but some parts of Asia are generally better at being respectful of rules and decency than western cultures.

As an aside, I'm sure the environment impact of manufacturing them is horrible.

Trouble is they always blame the car driver, and if you are in a Maserati or something of the same elk then you are pure evil

I think in some ways this is a great step forward in terms of freeing up our cities and providing a cleaner environment but I feel they should be insured for use. If one of these crash into a car or a person it could do a lot of damage.

Bizarrely it seems if you buy one it’s illegal to ride it anywhere but if you rent one it‘s fine , perhaps the rental price includes insurance.

They should require insurance .. so should cyclists. I had my car whacked a few years back by at traffic lights, while stationary, by a cyclist.. needed to have front wing re-sprayed.. hard to claim off someone that left the scene down an alley...

I'm a cyclist and I have insurance. I would estimate about 50% do.

Well, 50% before the lockdown. since everyone bought bike during the lockdown I'd guess thats down to about 20%

I know a few of my mates do because the cost of their bikes are staggering and they value their lives . But it should be mandatory, 3rd party liability for bike versus pedestrian especially.

That's exactly why I have cover on mine.

Not sure how you police mandatory 3rd Party Liability though. Especially when you have kids cycling at the age of about 2.

Even if they did have insurance though but disappeared off down an alley unless they have a license plate you can't find them.
