Pre - track day tinkering tips for the Stradale

Well, 8th of December I have a track day and I have the strad booked in the MD for this Monday. The only things I am planning on doing are:

- Engine oil + filter
- F1 system oil change (bled with SD3)
- Clutch wear check and pull any other error codes

Seems boring, I know, but anything else I might do? My rear corsas are shot, so this track day will hopefully finish them off, so tires will be done afterwards.

Maybe a preventative change of the F1 relay? - what is the correct/best/most uprated part number please?

Check tyre pressures
Brake disc and pad condition
Fresh brake fluid wouldn't go a miss.
Ensure all fluids are at correct level, equally make sure they're not over-full especially brake fluid and and power steering as they can boil over when too hot and make a mess.

Great points Sam. thanks. The brakes being CCM makes it easy not to think about them too much but I'll check the service records to see if the fluid has been changed/flushed, along with the other points you mention.

Remember to check tyres pressures and fluids regularly throughout as well. And then again before you drive home.

Also, tracktape or similarly will be ugly but will protect you from stone chips and trackday rash. Highly recommended.

Take some pressure out of your tyres before getting out there. They will get hot and expand when giving it some.

Try not to bring the car off the circuit directly after hammering it, if possible just do a gentle slowdown lap before you come back in. I have zero knowledge off how these are on the track but it’s just a little sympathy on the car. It just lets the heat soak away more evenly than say cooking the brakes and letting it sit there boiling up. Have fun

You will have a warm up lap and a slow down one each time....or should....Oliver is right you should def do a slow down lap before coming in and when you stop don't apply the hand break as it could/will weld to your hot discs.

Warm up lap for two reasons...to bring everything up to temp and to give you and sighting lap.

I would get the dealer to weigh your CCM discs to see how much wear you have already - then you can weigh them again afterwards and see how much it has cost you!

Dont put the handbrake on after hammering it. Tyres as others have suggested and don't scream the tyres in the corners or they will go off quickly.

Drift wide and use all the track....slow into the corners, fast out and never brake on the apex.

Other than that, have fun!

... at the end of the day I may just chicken out (relatively speaking) to the comfort of 1/2 mile drags. They suit the Stradale quite well, clutch permitting! Thanks for all the tips.

here she is, all checked in to MD, in good company.

Get out on track...drive to your own limits......first tracks days are always daunting but once your done one you want more. It's the only place these days you can start to see how your car really performs and your Stradale is crying out for a track day. If it's ran well they are safe and loads of fun. Guarantee you will be hooked. Loads on here have come along to Llandow for their first ever track day and will tell you they just loved it and want more....

Yes do it!! I've sailed my barge around Lllandow a couple of times now. Didn't do a whole load of laps and only pushed it until I felt I was running out of talent (which didn't take very long). Great to be really on it for a change and really push the car. I'm sure from a racing point of view I was all over the place and was overtaken by everything, but you do find yourself driving with a stupid grin on your face all the time! You don't have to go mad. Keep MSP on and it will look after you. I justified it by thinking it was no different to how I was attacking the passes in Switzerland or trying to catch Zep/Connaero after they sprang like hares out of a trap at the payage on MOB. (I ended up having to do the stupid arm waving dance to convince the barrier gods to relent most of the time for some reason)

Quick follow up:
Clutch wear at 1% per 1000kms. Including a track day. Quite happy.

Engine oil change 3hrs and F1 fluid 4.5 hrs billed. Expensive! I'll do it myself next time.

No that's a **** take. It's an hour max and that's checking phone, scratching bum, making a cup of tea. What a bunch of clowns....
