I'd buy an early 928. They are so good, very useable, hold value and drive superbly.

Or maybe a 70s BMW such as this 2002 tii. Uber cool.

My old chairman was a star who commuted from his farm in Kent to our office in Shepherds Bush in a silver 1980 928. I think it had a brown check interior. Scruffy but oh so cool.

The 928 gained an unfair reputation. A very good car, but in amateur hands... well, these days I really hope they're receiving the attention they deserve.

Of course I would say VW Beetle.:) Although driving my '54 to London (from OZ) would be a bit much.

The correct answer is the Mercedes-Benz 450 SEL 6.9. Comfortable, very fast, understated and if it was good enough for Fangio... automatic so perfect for London stop start.

.Early Alfetta GTV, very cool, more reliable than rumor has it, and still way to cheap when compared to Fords.

Will dissolve though. That's not a jibe at the reliability. Had a couple of 116s and a Sprint. It will need to be kept dry

Anything pre 1980 is going to be a world of pain in February

Have you had an insurance quote for commuting yet , I insure a 97 MX5 fully comp for £98 but it's limited mileage SD&P only
