Sorry to ask this again (i have looked at the other older threads on Indy’s)

can anyone recommend an Indy local to Bracknell/Reading?

the mobile guy from prestige autos isn’t being very responsive as he has a big job on at the moment. (Lambo engine rebuild)

I have spoken to Verdi in Chiswick but that would mean the seller taking the car to them over an hour away.

thanks in advance,
James

Thanks both- I was hoping for something a bit closer. Would it be worth trying the main dealer at Egham? (I’d prefer an Indy specialist)

How about QV in Windsor, I used them before for a PPI and were very thorough including compression tests

QV London are in Windsor but are Ferrari specialists so not sure if they know Masers?

I live near Bracknell but use SportsItalia also, its only just over an 1hr south

I would steer clear of Verdi unless they have changed in the last 15yrs.......

QV London should be able to help…. They did the PPI on my Testarossa and also we’re selling a Maserati Indy (1970s) previously I looked at too

Just to update this thread for future reference for others:

I have now booked a mobile PPI with Nick Giles, who is relatively well known in Porsche circles but has also previously owned a Maser.

he is looking at a car for me on Tuesday.

price is a very reasonable £175 + 55p per mile for his travel.

in my case £230 is well worth it for peace of mind (or negotiation chips!).
He doesn’t have diagnostic kit to read clutch life for MC shift, but the seller has already provided that report showing it is a new clutch with 0% wear.

fingers crossed I’ll have a Granturismo S in the garage next week. I just need to rearrange some stuff in there so it will fit!

It’s probably nothing to worry about, but 0% is a bit odd. Even a new clutch shows 1 or 2% wear to my understanding. It’s not a highly accurate system of measurement.

i thought the same, but the report seems genuine- using Autel kit which I’m assured independently is a top end diagnostic tool. (I just hope they haven’t photoshopped out a ‘9’

Do you know when the clutch was actually changed? Was it the same day as this reading (looks like February) and has it done any miles since?

Not 100% sure when the clutch was done but hoping to see the service receipt on Tuesday.

don’t know how many miles since then either. Car is currently on 39k miles so I don’t anticipate it needing a clutch in my ownership.

Do the other values all look normal?

Engine number is after the actuator problems- so subframe is my main concern (and brakes), along with other general stuff

The reason I ask is that it is possible to reset the clutch reading if you are so inclined. So make sure all the pieces of the jigsaw fit together.

Other than that it’s all the other stuff to look out for :)

What driving conditions would induce clutch slip that I can try on the test drive?

just downshift and nail the throttle ?

There aren’t any if it’s working properly. Just drive it. The only time it should slip is when you slow down in second to almost stationary and then speed up again and when pulling away.

Hi @JMS

Can you say how the inspection went in the end and where is Nick Giles based? Thanks

I got a phonecall and photos same day and a written report a couple of days later.

I think he’s based near Hereford.

I didn’t end up offering on the car he looked at as he highlighted that it had previously been painted on one side with a poor match against the roof. That, along with potential subframe concern was just too much for me to take on, even if the seller would drop the price to accommodate. I also managed to stretch my budget meaning I got a facelift car with the nicer seats.

It was definitely money well spent as it saved me a day and he spotted stuff that I would have probably missed.

Only downside is that he doesn’t have diagnostic kit to scan for fault codes. HPI check is not included either. He obviously can’t get the car on ramps but did get it up on a Jack for a good look underneath.

The car I bought, I had inspected by Nuvola who were near the seller.

Summary: if there are no Maser specialists near the seller, or they are not willing/able to take it to one, I would use him again, as it’s no inconvenience to the seller. If he had given it the thumbs up - I would have still wanted to see it myself before parting with any cash.

Good luck.
