Just scanning through this thread and notice reference to service costs and insurance. All very sensible to assess.

But... (and don't want sound negative) it's not the regular servicing or the insurance that's the problem, it's the emergent maintenance bills that can blow the budget when you're least expecting it.

Go in with your eyes open, and hopefully, it will be a positive experience.

I hear you there, my SL has rhe ability to produce some eye watering costs hence why I have a maintenance fund just in case.

I see you are retired.
Me too and I have had my annual renewal on my '03 4200 of £185.00 without even haggling. But that is based on living in the South West on 2k miles per annum and a £400 excess. With SAGA and I usualyy have to fight with them for my cars at renewal time. Are they learning their lesson?
I retired early but struggling to curb the lifestyle  Saga were good when I first got the SL but the following years quote was double!

Try Adrian Flux. I've had several cars insured with them over the past year and they do seem to want to beat the best quotes from the comparison websites, when you call them up. If you restrict mileage, they can apply something like a classic car risk to a regular policy and this really brings the quote down. I'm aware that it isn't all about the quote and aftercare is critical, but I've not had the opportunity to test that yet. Fortunately. Touches wood / head :alan:

Welcome to the forum

Just my 2 pence on the 4200 VS GS debate I'll try to avoid repeating others

I believe the 4200 is the better grand tourer... Softer ride due to the smaller 18" rims, higher ride height means you can stuff your luggage and various items for a 2-4 week holiday (for two people) with ease and you are not sitting too low and worried about scraping on roads unknown

Further comforts inside GS seats may be very nice with all of the carbon and such but it has NO ARMREST on the centre console also useless flaps instead of proper storage on the door cards

Finally GS was only F1 transmission - no manual option.

All of the differences point to the GS being a more "hardened" track version of the 4200 - I think if Maserati were not on a tight leash with Ferrari holding control the GS would have been a lot more performance orientated rather than just a dressed up 4200 (no offense GS owners) - they could have easily added 40hp and adjustable coil overs to create something really special like the GT Stradale

I would hope, given that this was from 2019, that he has worked it out by now :D
