Hi all, just joined today as I am thinking that I would like a Maserati in my life and will be looking for pointers and tips on what to look for. I am interested in a 4200 or maybe a Granturismo but given my budget a 4200 is more likely.

Absolute max £20k if a GT but I wouldn't want to spend more than £15k on a 4200.

Welcome!

20k is going to put you at bottom of the GT market, but £15k will buy you a nice 4200. So while the running costs of a 4200 will probably be slightly higher you will get more bang for your buck.

I knew that would be the case. I need to do a lot more research on the 4200 so I will be reading as many threads on here as I can find.

What's does a Gransport have over a 4200?
Another 5 BHP.
Valved rear silencers.
Lower suspension.
Body styling.
Interior with sports seats and carbon trim.
A good friend of mine has a well known forum car in med blue for sale in Gloucester which is on Autotrader.

It’s generally accepted that the Gransport is the more sorted of all previous iterations.

I think it’s fair to say most on here would have one over previous models.

Unless you just want a comfortable Grand Tourer which is where the 4200 scores with the GS more of a Sports drive.

I'm in the 4200 over Gransport camp mainly as personally I didn't think the 10k extra difference for me when I bought mine was worth it. If they were the same price I would have had a Gransport.

The difference seems maybe the same or a bit less possibly now like for like but probably the same.

Take my 2007 4200 at 15k and Dave's GS at is it 15k miles? There must be £10k difference buying one to the other. I love Dave's btw but I'm not sure I could justify 10k more. Mainly as I'd rather have another different car using that 10k.

Each to their own and we are all different.

This has been debated before and am sure will be again but at the end of the day it's personal preference. The face-lift 4200 and the GS were out at the same time, why? Because they are different cars and because some would prefer the qualities of the 42 and visa-versa. But at the same time quite similar!!??
Very similar (I think) to the Audi S4 cab and the Audi RS4 cab I have had, only a bit more than 5bhp between them.

Just to be clear, my point was that right now there are a couple of very nice GS within OP's budget and he should definitely put one on his shortlist and try both models out. It was not a 'GS is better than 4200' comment ;)

I think you will found it's a lot more than 5bhp.

As one motoring journal cited: "The Gransport is the car the 4200 should have been"

I think there is a scarcity in numbers ( GS being fewer than 4200 and GS Spyder even fewer). Your budget should get you a nice 4200. Not sure the same applies for your upper end budget for a tidy sorted GS.
