Potential Levante Owner

Hi PJM,
I won't comment on the running of it but only on my driving impressions.
I tried the 350BHP petrol one, honestly it was pretty good on all aspects, noise, road holding, driving position etc.... but when I looked at the fuel consumption

I had a Diesel one for a day to service, remap and install the Maxhaust system.
I was pretty disappointed with the performance, pretty sluggish, which spoilt it a bit.
The owner was also disappointed with the same points.
After the remap and the sound system installed it was a completely different car.
The owner was over the moon with it.

So if you're not prepared to remap a Diesel, and don't mind the fuel consumption, then go for the petrol version.

By the way I have a Ghibli Diesel, remapped and the Maxhaust system installed, and no one believes it's a Diesel, even the Maserati techs and salesman who tried it, said it ha nothing to envy the 350 petrol model.

Thanks for your thoughts. I am not too worried about the fuel consumption and if I go for the Levante I am definitely going to go for a petrol - 350bhp or 430bhp. Nice to hear you liked everything else about the car.

My opinion of the Levante ..... https://www.sportsmaserati.com/index.php?threads/the-levante-is.30811/

I had it for 3 months in the end and didn't like it.
Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts.

I find it really interesting how its looks splits opinion. I think it looks great; eye of the beholder I guess...

I suppose it is a case of being patient now and hope the C-19 situation improves so I can get out for a drive in one soon. No doubt a strong chance that confirmation bias will kick in and I will look for reasons why I really like it and should buy it, as opposed to being completely objective. I will read through this thread just before driving it though to try and consider what others have said, both positive and negative with regard to the drive and quality.

Iam on my second Levante after owning a Diesel first of all I then purchased a petrol

no major issues on either car, screen cracked on the diesel but was replaced on warranty

The suspension scrub/judder on full lock is poor, just about to change my tyres at 20k

interior is a nice place to be, the piano black is a little plasticky, the 8.5 inch screen is good, easy to connect Bluetooth

really comes into its own on long journeys, it’s huge but actually easy to drive once you get use to it

I got the maintenance agreement with the car so I don’t pay for my services, dealer is always helpful & friendly

I can’t comment on mpg as I have never bought a car based on that and I never look at it - but I can if you feel it will help you decide on the car

any other questions pls ask

Firefox,

Great to hear your thoughts.

I have just looked on the configurator and can see replacing the piano black is an option when building the car, so I will consider that when looking, although I am buying used so will be restricted by what is available. A definite for me is a pan roof; is there anything else specification wise you have that you would recommend or wish you had?

Similar to you, I am not really concerned about the mpg, but thank you for offering to monitor it.

I have the pan roof, it’s lovely

Definitely get heated seats and if possible heated steering wheel, it makes a huge difference in winter.

I also upgraded the stereo as I love my music.

I have black glossed wheels, these are nice but stay well away from kerbs, also privacy glass

overall I would purchase the petrol, big difference in performance and nicer to drive

I’ve done over 50k miles in them, and never owned a 4x4 beforehand. I really enjoy the ownership

The ad mentions it as being a VAT Qualifying vehicle. So presumably the £44k price is ex VAT, making it a £52.8k priced car in total. (But I could be wrong about this.)
Vat qualifying usually applies to business van/pickups, I think.
Can't see how Vat is applicable to a second hand SUV such as this.
But like you, could be wrong!
