I only like the later facelift ones, 16/17on? when the back end became much better looking. Those may still be a bit pricey though.

What I love about this thread so far is no one is trying to convince me to buy a Maserati but instead outrage that I would consider a diesel... Shows the lack of desirability in the current Maserati offer

I am not certain about getting the diesel now so the petrol V6 and V6 hybrid are back on the table.
I'm not into diesel Maseratis, but then mine are not daily drivers so it's horses for courses.

Is a Ghibli too small? There are plenty around; a late low mileage example should be well within budget and you can easily resolve the diesel/petrol issue if you need to. I rather like this one:

I like those too... It is a new chasis though not a facelift. It was released in 2017 so yes out of budget sadly as they start from £50k the petrol V6 PDK is ideal for me from that generation... I doubt they will come down in price enough when the new registration comes out in March - they might start from £45k instead of £50k

I have a budget of £30k to £35k-ish to spend on a new diesel daily to replace my 2010 Mercedes CLS 350 CDI Grand Edition - it has been a great car but it is getting a little long in the tooth and we are looking to upgrade

Initially we looked at the next generation facelifted CLS from 2014 but it is lacking something... The interior is not as special as the first generation W219 and it's a bit of a lump to look at - however the back seats do fold and there is a shooting brake option which is very practical for us as we go camping in the summers and go cycling throughout the year.

The Porsche Panamera Diesel checks a lot of boxes, great interior and personally I like the styling but I know it is not for everyone. Decent sized boot with the seats folded and it's a hatch so easy access. Parts prices and availability seems decent with servicing costs not far off the Mercedes. It is however more expensive to buy... I can get a very nicely spec'd CLS for £25k from Mercedes Retail the porker is £35k and barely any used approved at the dealerships

The QP and Lavente are wild cards, to be honest I am not very keen as the diesel engine is not up the scratch next to the Germans and parts/servicing are expensive even compared to the Porsche... However they are newer cars and I am willing to listen to arguments for them if anyone is willing to share their experiences?

Have you thought about the BMW 640D Gran Coupe?

313BHP, 4 doors, decently looking, 30K gets you a low mileage 2018 car.

I generally don't like BMW's but am considering one for next year.

A 300 quid remap and you have a 400+BHP motor that will do 40-50mpg

My BMW 335d remapped to 440bhp and 700NM is possibly one of my most favourite cars that I've owned, and therefore I'd thoroughly recommend one.

Pretty understated and subtle badge compared to Porsche or Maserati. But when it's clean and shiny it looks good
Really impressive handling, sure footed and easy to drift if you're so inclined.
Will out pace and embarrass many "sports" cars. I've added a 318d badge on the back for added WTF factor
Engine note in the cabin is pleasant due to the straight 6
I get an average of 35mpg according to the trip computer, if it's reset and driven frugally on the motorway it's probably possible to get near 50mpg

We have had two new 335ds though not remapped. Great cars in pure metrics (0-60 in 4.8s, 4wd, practical as a touring, sharp handling if you tighten up the dampers electronically) but after 120k miles over 6 years they are a bit bland and I wonder if the 340i would have been more fun. The computer overreads by 3 mpg. Ours always read 40 but did 37. Great value 2nd hand - our 1 owner car with 42k and over £50k new will probably be up for about £20k when it comes out of BMW.

@Dan! I remember your 335I tanking it past the Maseratis all day on the way to Le Mans last year

Problem is i have had 4x 3 series and 1x 5 series as company cars which has made me feel like I am done with the brand for a while... Just sat inside a beamer I feel a bit resentful somehow lol

Yeah, if you've already had the same type of car multiple times, then probably time for a change of badge.

That said, I'm not a massive fan of change as you can see in the pic below of my old car and my new car...

Discovered something interesting with the E hybrid - Porsche only offer a 6 year warranty on the hybrid gubbins and there has been a number of recorded problems I noticed on the Porsche forums which means I would rather not have one out of warranty!

I just called the Porsche centre in Guildford and asked them some very pointed questions regarding the extended warranty and if it includes various elements of the hybrid drive and battery - they said that I will be called back with the answer

@outrun that Alpina! Meeeowww! :shy1:

I would have the Macan over the Lavente, easy choice...

Would I take a SUV over a "sports sedan"? That is a difficult choice!

The Macan (as long as it has air suspension) handles like a car. No roll at all. They also hold value well, maybe even better than a Panamera. I bet you the missus prefers the Macan. Also, the back seats 3 which the Panamera doesn’t and for us, that would be a real pain.

And the Alpina is special. A bit like a GS or a Stradale, a number of small changes makes something good into something great.

@outrun she is very much in the minority of women out there as she does not like SUVs - might be because she is a petrol head like the rest of us.

I heard back from Porsche apparently they can extend the warranty if it has not run out yet - after some research and finding out the common problems around the hybrid I am rather put off... Various failures on the hybrid system and then the Audi V6 gets major carbon build up from being ran cold too much... Yikes

The Alpina idea has taken some traction. I have always wanted one and I can get one of these well within budget

I can concur they are phenomenally quick for a diesel and you cannot really tell they use the fuel of the devil as silky smooth and quiet.
