Oooh, that is stunning. Spent 2 nights there after the 2014 Centenary trip. Must confess, Como is better.
I’m looking to surprise Mrs stindig with a trip to the Italian lakes in August. EasyJet Gatwick to Malpensa is just £90 per head but does anyone have hotel recommendations? I looked at Mandarin Oriental (as per Top Gear) but it’s a tad expensive. Must be on the Lake. Bellagio?

Drive down, don’t fly. Especially not with FlyingPikeyAirlines.

Grand Hotel Menaggio is right on the lake and gets the morning sun.

I just love this place....maybe I need to retire there rather than Cumbria. My missus would go tomorrow.

Have you been out of season , I've found a number of places I'd like to retire to when it's sunny, warm and I'm in the holiday mood, February might not be so appealing , also I rarely go abroad in the summer as I don't like 30+degree temps , so basically I need 3 retirement plans , Spring & Autumn in one , then Winter somewhere warm and summer somewhere cool , can't see that ever happening so I'll probably die where I am now

Simple, move to Australia. There you go problem solved.

I was too old for Australia even though there were some great opportunities for mechanics.
Got into NZ but it's a long way from everywhere unless you enjoy long haul flights.
Again plenty of opportunity there too but it rains a lot and the Winters are cold with no central heating.
Had some Good times before coming back to Europe.

+1. The two rooms with the terraces on the first floor are particularly nice. Agree about driving down, that’s what we did - makes a great holiday and avoiding planes makes sense at the mo.

Avoiding aircraft makes sense at any time. Personally, I can’t stand the f*cking things and airports especially.

Can't say as I've ever been disappointed with easyjet or ryanair , though I did laugh at their priority seating arrangements once in 2001 , you paid extra for first access to the seats , we were all in a coralle waiting when I noticed a separate group at the front, the priority access was a head start , they opened the door and let them go , then about a minute later the rest of us, I was flying alone so wasn't bothered but some of the fitter mob got to the plane before the priority bookers
