From Weston a couple of years ago. No photos of the vertical bit but was awesome.

Kev Rumens, a good mate of mine, flew that Vulcan on displays until it was grounded. Towards the end he barrel rolled it just to prove it could be done. Unfortunately, it was filmed by some one on the ground and the CAA pulled his display licence. He also gave Ryan a personal fly-past on the way back from a display. Another of the pilots was Martin Withers, the guy who bombed the runway at Port Stanley, and I flew with him commercially for Thomas Cook.

That was one of its last flights at Weston. Pretty sure it was mid roll in that photo or very close to it.

Any bank more than 90* is classed as an aerobatic manoeuvre and a large aircraft is prohibited from doing them. It didn’t stop Kev though!

He seemed to be making an effort that day and sitting on Brean Down you’re almost at the same level.

I seem to remember reading about Cold War exercises in the US where RAF Vulcans 'attacked' NY acting as Sovs and successfully 'bombed' it by hiding two Blackburn Buccaneers under each wing to deceive radar.

The Vulcan should have done a flypast when we were at the Revival in 2015 but developed some problems. We went up to Menwith Hill to see the final flypast which was immense and then a number of SM members went to Doncaster to see it static.

I can't find the photos at the moment but will see if I can dig them out.

I was lucky enough to witness a couple of ear-splittingly-epic Vulcan QRA's at Waddington, and latterly saw XH558 over Middle Wallop on its final tour:
