Going through my hard drive looking for something else (which I still haven't found!) I came across some photos I took at a localish Warwickshire Marcos owner's club gathering last year, thought I'd post these three shots.... often overlooked compared to E-Types and Astons they have such a gorgeous shape and when fitted with deep dished wire wheels with the right profile tyres on they look so 1960s. If you see one in the flesh and walk round it your eyes pick up hints of Ferrari 250GT and 275GTB here a bit of Bizzarrini 5300GT there, with the long bonnet and covered headlamps giving a hint of E-Type...

Imagine a 16 year old seeing one of the original Marcos Volvo 1800's pull into the filling station.
A look of astonishment.
The original 1800s where perfectly proportioned, small and agile. Always desired one.
Some considerable time later I was debating whether to take the plunge and test drived a 3 Litre.
That heavy Ford lump up front made for heavy steering, but power to weight made it some beast.
The 1800's became out of my league at the time and are hugely sort after.
They set the style for classic teardrop/coke bottle form we see quite often now

I always hankered after a Marcos, even more so when in later years a mate of mine bought a Mantara.

I snapped the Mantis at Silverstone in 2014, not many left I imagine:

I think British Racing Green or its derivatives looks Stunning.
For many it had become unfashionable but those pictures are great.
For me and my current hankerings for later Jaguar XKR that would be my chosen colour.

Early Marcos cars are great but then they did have Frank Costin who was one of the great early aerodynamics engineers including early Lotus cars and the Vanwall F1 car. He was also brother to Mike Costin of Cosworth fame. Close up some Marcos cars leave a lot to be desired, poor quality materials & finish and variable panel gaps but not surprising given the hand built nature.

There were around a hundred or so GTs present at that show I went to (Wroxham Abbey not far from Warwick, a very nice little venue for old car gatherings), each one was different, no two seemed to be exactly alike and my eyes were out on stalks all day....

The owner of this beauty let me sit in it, I'm only 5'3'' and felt like I was made for it, good job the pedal box is adjustable though (the seats are fixed to the rear bulkead)...

I still want one despite looking for my next Mini project...

Bit of an 'Eerie' morning. Was at our Chester Courts looking at a opening that has appeared in the Court yard (apparently where they used to hang people from a wall mounted gallows and drop the dead bodies down 16m into a pit which is now filled in, and where our hole is)!! So we have the Archeologists in also.
Whilst there I was taken down to the old cells to room 002............Myra Hindley's old cell!! The hairs on the back of my neck were right up! Apparently this was the only cell that had an en-suit so she was kept totally private and away from the other in-mates who would probably try to kill her..................I just had to sit on the toilet!!

I only found out at my Dad's funeral two and a half years ago that his older brother was the arresting officer when they nicked Hindley, a few days after Brady was first arrested. I knew for years that he was involved in the case and the searches up on the moors, but not this particular part of it.

Agree. Panel quality typical of late 60s early 70s hand laid glass fibre. By today's standards the running gear and chassis/shell doesn't compare with today nor even at the time I test drove one, so with much regret turned away and went another route.
Nevertheless, the shape is still gorgeous
