The electronic flight deck on modern airliners can be a bit bewildering at times; there are so many ways to get the info you want you can almost get ’lost’ in which way is best. Boeing have been under the cosh from Airbus for years and it would appear they are losing the plot. I’ve said from the word go that the 737Max won’t be cleared for service in it’s current guise; they will have to change the architecture and the name at the very least. Fortunately I never flew one, I was Airbus only.

wonder if boeing could ever go tits up, presumably the us government would never let that happen

Late last year I saw pictures of a load of 737 MAX aircraft that had already been purchased by Ryan air and all in storage somewhere. On the request of Ryan air the livery/insignia had all been modified to remove any trace of the ‘ MAX’ word.

It was 20 years ago, which is a scary thought, I’ll turn into one of those BR geeks soon. Must go get a pair of trousers that are 3 inches too short so I fit in.
I was catching a train to Preston from warrington a few years ago , me and one other guy on the platform, on the other side over about 20 minutes 30-40 men started gathering on the platform setting up cameras and video cameras

I was thinking steam train , this huge goods train pulled in , seemed to be mostly tesco wagons , turned out they guy stood next to me was the next driver

It pulled away , took ages for it to clear the platform

I'm looking up the track waiting for chuff chuff chuff, turn to see if any more spectators have turned up and they' ve all gone

What a strange bunch

Many of us will have memories of Sports Mopeds when we were 16 and the freedom they gave us thinking we were real bikers too :)

That Fizzi in the middle is exactly like my old one - the memories came flooding back ...... screaming down the dual carriageway, head down, feet up in the rack at the back - sure I got to 60mph but it was most likely 40mph ;)

Bit like Maserati owners. “Is that grigio maratea or grigio granito?” It’s clucking grey!

I was lucky enough to see the SR 71 fly in the 80s , now that made some noise

Interesting story about it

a couple of years ago on Radio 2 they had a story about a USAF maintenance man stealing a cargo plane from a UK base in the 60s because he missed his wife and wanted to fly back to the US , he took off and was never seen again

some old boy who worked on lightnings at the time rang in and told a story about being ordered to fully arm a lightning fitted with drop tanks , a car turned up with an RAF pilot in it he'd never seen before , he got in it and took off

Later he returned and got back in the car never to be seen again , the lightning had used most of its fuel and the weapons had been fired, that's all he knew

I suppose if an aircraft had been stolen and was flying in British airspace it'd be up to the RAF to shoot it down if the pilot didn't respond

Another good one about it was the titanium used for its airframe was only available in quantity from the USSR at the time. So the USA got it via dodgy intermediaries in Africa from the USSR to then go and spy in the USSR.

I don’t know if it’s true , years ago I read about the soviet Government ordering thousands of XL Condoms for their army from an American company

the US company had to apply for a permit to supply them which was approved with the proviso that every box and packet was marked medium

That brings back some memories! I had a FS1E in that colour too (1975 model I think - no disc brake). only 1 of our crowd had an SS50, not cool! What is the moped in the foreground? I always wanted one of those Italian mopeds 8.5 bhp (Testi) but in the days before the internet we had to scour the classifieds in MCN and they never came up before I was 17 and upgrade to a rocketship; RD200 with Micron expansion chambers!!

Likewise, I had a FS1E but mine was a purple 1974 model. Most of my mates had them but a couple had Gilera’s. Great fun and seemed fast at the time.

I was 16 in feb 77 but my mum wouldn't allow me to get one as it was too dangerous in february and it had to be new
I knew exactly what I wanted FS1E in kenny Roberts yellow,I had to wait until may, as a surprise without telling me they went and sorted it out
Next day we went to get it

I didnt think it'd be possible to be disappointed on my first day of motorised freedom , I hid it well as they presented the Red FS1E DX , slower , disc brake and oil tank = safer in mums eyes

Gutted, I'd wanted a yellow one since the first time I'd seen a picture in a magazine.

Still had the best year ever with it, made loads of mates and was barely ever in the house

My brother had a Malaguti Cafe Racer style moped, coolest thing around but long gone by the time I was old enough to legally ride it.

Something like this.
