Haven't driven one in anger for quite a while but they make a cracking noise on full chat, especially if you get a pair in multiple working mode. Bloody rough riders though at anything above walking pace. My brother was chairman of one of the preservation groups for a while and owned a few himself, including some of the scrappers that were sent out to Spain, he made a tidy profit when he sold them and paid his mortgage off!

DRS were still using a pair of class 37s for the flask trains until last year I think. They were often stabled just beyond your photo.

Used to see a lot in the DRS compound at Crewe but not so many now. There's still a fairly decent number of older BR locos in service, it's quite refreshing seeing them out and about. Likewise with steam charters - I got the shock of my life one morning down at Willesden when 'Flying Scotsman' came out of the fog making its way back to Southall...!
